Jar of Hearts

This song really resonated with me the very first time I heard it.

I had a very violent and passionate relationship with a boy that consumed my life for a few years. While I dated this boy, he made me feel insecure and desperate, he raped me emotionally, mentally, and physically. I felt like I was nothing without him and his "love". I gave him everything I had to offer, only to be laughed at and mocked in return. He took everything from me, my virginity, my confidence, my individuality, and my passion. We fought all the time, and I believed it meant we cared about each other. I knew he had a bad reputation, but I was so blinded by what I thought to be the good in him that I didn't even notice all the bad signs while we were dating. Turns out, he was cheating on me constantly, and we eventually broke up, but he wouldn't let me go. He kept trying to talk to me or text me or invite me to hang out and we continued fighting about our tumultuous and poisonous relationship. He left for the Air Force, and I barely heard from him for months. When he was in town though, he'd try to get in touch with me through my friends. We finally ended all forms of communication in January, when we had the biggest and worse fight ever. I woke up the next morning feeling better than I had all year. Like, my heart and soul could finally rest, and the only person I had to worry about pleasing, was myself.

I feel like Christina must've experienced a similar relationship with a boy, and her song is my love-life biography.

I really like this song. She wants to forget about the heartbreak caused by his boyfriend. Then the guy is looking for forgiveness and wants to be with her again. Very emotional song.

Such a beautiful song. The "who do you think you are" line is sung so defiantly and with so much emotion.

What does this song mean to me? Not that much, honestly. I've seen one girl after another fall for exactly the type of guy who would be most likely to "make rounds" with them and cheat habitually. Here is a little fact about the situation: If you find him incredibly attractive, there is a good chance that a lot of other girls do too. Guys who get a lot of attention from a lot of women and who are really into themselves will be WAY more likely to behave like players. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. The problem is, most girls want what they want, and won't give anyone else a chance (because apparently, love means never comprimising those butterflies in your stomach for somebody who might actually treat you with respect and care about you). If the perfect guy had enough time, almost every woman in the wolrd would be dating him (as long as he could manage to hide them from each other). When you think like that, you close your eyes, and when you do that, you get burned.

Her voice is awesome. It really sinks deep.. The song is pretty self explanatory. Love the line "You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul" Like omg, awesome.

Like most of the posts, I think it's fairly clear what the song is about (a girl manages to resist a serial player when he wants her back). Having watched the video though, I think it shows an additional dimension to the song. Throughout most of it the guy is sucking the breath (life?) out of the women he gets together with. However, at the end Christina is sucking his breath out. So I think the guy has seen the error of his ways, realised he is in love with the girl, and decided to give up his cheating ways. Unfortunately he is too late, since his earlier actions have given the girl far more strength than she had before. She can not only resist him, but she can completely break his heart. Revenge is sweet!

i think this song tries to show us how if we let the person that hurt you get to u thats the only way they can cause pain, aand the " u think u are" shows how no one has the right to break your heart

The whole jist of the song is "who do you think you are?" As in, someone who has the audacity or nerve to even think for an instant she would consider being broken again. Though the perpetrater knew her weaknesses and used them to break her down, she healed and grew stronger and to even imagine that person in her life again is like a slap in the face. Basically, she is saying that she is sickened by the thought that he would ever ask about her again or enter her life and hopes that eventually he will become ill and be plagued by his cold, cold heart. It's more of a cry for remorse, if anything and much, much distance from him. These things are cyclical in nature and are repetitive and are reasons why loneliness never sounded so comforting. Great song and her voice is unique.

Here is my interpretation, based on my own experience and therefore not meant in any way to be 'the' interpretation, but I think it interesting that the song has meaning both ways:
