Frida did a solo album in 1982. There was a song on it called "To Turn The Stone," written by Giorgio Moroder. I pondered the title. "To turn the stone" means to flip a stone over to see what is underneath, something previously hidden. Music was changing in 1982. Big 70s bands like ABBA and The Eagles were in their final phase. The future was up for grabs. "And mystery replaces what we thought we knew."
"To Turn The Stone" is about change on a cosmic scale. The moon and the earth! The moon and darkness are personified. The moon retreats like a child. Darkness throws a sinister cloak as if it were a phantom. The moon, representing enlightenment and knowledge, disappears as something we thought we knew.
All is illusion! There is no permanence. Life is a kaleidoscope. "Eternal sands of time shift endlessly." And not only do objects change, but the subjective changes as well. We change! Our perceptions change. "But do we see the same through different eyes?" Things appear a certain way "behind a veil of motionless disguise."
Life itself is transitory. And transitions come quickly and without warning. Only an "eyelid flash" is needed to turn the stone. Things change in the twinkling of an eye. Much insight is packed into the 10 lines of this song.
