Tonight I'm Getting Over You Lyrics

i wanna smash your fears
and get drunken off your tears
don't you share your smile with anyone else but me
i wanna touch your heart
i wanna crush it in my hands
make it plead and cry as you give up all the lies
we're not lovers, but more than friends
put a flame to every single word you ever said
no more cryin to get me through
i'll keep dancing til the morning with somebody new

tonight i'm getting over you

stuck in a real bad dream
and man, it feels so real to me
should be in your arms but i'm begging at your feet
it's been a real hard night
and i just hold my pillow tight
you won't love me back no, it's not you and i
we're not lovers, but more than friends
put a flame to every single word you ever said
no more cryin to get me through
i'll keep dancing til the morning with somebody new

tonight i'm getting over you

we're not lovers, but more than friends
put a flame to every single word you ever said
no more cryin to get me through
i'll keep dancing til the morning with somebody new

tonight i'm getting over you

"I wanna smash your fears And get drunk in off your tears" = She wants to 'smash his fears' because she loves him, but at the same time she wishes bad things to happen to him because of his lies.

"I wanna touch your heart.I wanna crush it in my hands Make you plead and cry as you give up all the lies." = He basically lead her on with his lies (that he loved her). This has caused her extreme emotional pain/conflict where she is torn between her love for him and wanting to 'crush his heart' to destroy him for his lies and deceit.

"We're not lovers, but more than friends" = The person is stuck in a bad situation where the other person is only interested in a 'friends with benefits' relationship (she is essentially being used for sex).

"Put a flame to every single word you ever said No more crying To get me through I'll keep dancing till the morning with somebody new" =

She is going to pull an Adele and find someone like him (aka rebound guy) and set fire to the rain on his lying words (seeing past his BS).

"Tonight I'm getting over you" X 4 = Self-denial #1-4

"Stuck in a real bad dream And man it feels so new to me Should be in your arms but I'm begging at your feet" =

Love in its true and best form means that both people are willing to invest roughly equally (emotionally, time, effort etc.) into the relationship. CRJ is caught in a bad dream (a nightmare), which stands for her imbalanced, unfair, parasitic, and unhealthy relationship with the guy. Her situation (her bad dream) is a new experience for her that she does posses the emotional skills to properly handle it (she should leave him and find someone that can love her properly).

"It's been a real hard night And I just hold my pillow tight It won't love me back, no, It's not you and I"

CRJ is tired of fighting this losing battle with this guy. She goes back home and seeks comfort in someone/something, which is described as a soft comfy pillow. She compares the pillow that she is hugging for comfort to her situation with the guy. She realizes that the guy, just like the pillow which gives her pleasure and comfort, cannot possibly love her back.
