This is the end
Hold your breath and count to ten
Feel the Earth move and then
Hear my heart burst again
For this is the end
I've drowned and dreamt this moment
So overdue, I owe them
Swept away, I'm stolen

Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At Skyfall
At Skyfall

Skyfall is where we start
A thousand miles and poles apart
Where worlds collide and days are dark
You may have my number, you can take my name
But you'll never have my heart

Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together
Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together
At Skyfall

(Let the sky fall)
(When it crumbles)
(We will stand tall)
(Let the sky fall)
(When it crumbles)
(We will stand tall)

Where you go, I go
What you see, I see
I know I'd never be me
Without the security
Of your loving arms
Keeping me from harm
Put your hand in my hand
And we'll stand

Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together
Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together
At Skyfall

Let the sky fall
We will stand tall
At Skyfall
Ooh

"You may have my number, you can take my name But you’ll never have my heart"

This is the character of James Bond in a nutshell: we know his number (007) and his name but no one will ever have his heart, i.e. he'll never allow anyone to get close enough to him for true love. Every time he's allowed himself to love a woman, she's killed shortly afterward (Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Casino Royale, etc). The same goes for everyone he's cared about. For his own safety and for the safety of others, James Bond can only ever be a fleeting affair or an easily forgotten face in the crowd.

    My Interpretation

I’ve been listening to this non-stop for days.

I’m not looking at this as being descriptive of the movie because, in my opinion, it only bears a loose connection to it in terms of the themes. Adele is coming from a totally different place.

The whole song is about death, but it’s a spiritual death and rebirth: “this is the end”, “I’ve drowned...”, “swept away...”. Psychologically this is amazing because she is going to “where we start” which is, of course, birth and from there to be reborn.

The one she is facing it with is essentially her soul (her counter-self, in Jungian terms) the combination of the ego and id (even slightly) seems to destroy the world, but actually it destroys the conscious perspective of the world and creates a new perspective. She and he soul “face it all together”, they “stand tall” when it “crumbles”. Her whole view of the world is dying but she has been brave enough to stand and face it all.

“A thousand miles and poles apart”; this is like the ego and unconscious, they are antipodes but you’ll notice that they both start at “Skyfall”. So they’re as far apart as it’s possible to be but they’re also right next to each other — this is her soul/animus.

You’ll never have her heart; she has already given it to her soul.

The sky falling is a mythological motif which means that the “otherworld” will invade this one, it’s an alchemical motif meaning that what is “above” combines its self with what is “below”. The sky and the earth paradoxically come together for her at the moment she combines with her soul. She says “let the sky fall” because she knows this is the only way the two “poles” can be reconciled.

See what I mean about different themes? The movie is essentially about Bond’s perfect nemesis (he’s really fighting himself, since both he and the villain are infatuated with The Mother, by way of M) and it’s not about his combination with himself. He actually kills his nemesis, assuring that it will only return to kill him.

    Fun.

‘You may have my number, you can take my name’

    1. Silva was a 00 agent
    2. Silva's real name is Tiago, which is the Spanish version of James

This is such a lush and passionate song, I get teary and my heart full whenever I hear it. This song could refer to a love, a friend, a cause, but it gives you goosebumps and the will to keep going on. Adele's hauting voice definitely interprets it well.

    Song Meaning

This might give away some of the movie so don't read if you haven't seen the movie yet!

First of all it says "this is the end". This is when he gets shots and falls off a bridge. When it then says "hold your breath and count to 10" this has a strong link to the scene going on in the opening sequence. He accidently gets shot and falls off a bridge into water. This means he's holding his breath as he drowns. When it says "so overdue I owe them" I think it means that he's finally dieing after all those years of service.

Skyfall, is the place where Bond lived before he became part of MI6. So when it says "Skyfall is where we start" That is what it means. That's where he lived when he was a child.

Moving onto the chorus. (I'm doing this in a random order) When it says "Stand tall, at Skyfall" etc it's referring to when they take shelter there from the bad guy and they have to basically fight there. Another point I would like to point out is when it says "When it crumbles" It's talking when the house (Skyfall) is destroyed in their battle. Luckily Bond hated the house so no bad feelings!

Then, when it says "Where I go, you go, What I see, you see" it explains that the secret service are watching what he's doing at every point. That's what it's pointing out.

Well, that's about all the meanings I can gather really from that song! Hope you became wiser from reading this!

One more thing! I just wanted to say that have you noticed the Bond theme is played underneath the song? When I say underneath I don't mean literally!

    My Interpretation

Correction to my earlier post - accidentally pressed enter before I could make edits.

From a spiritual world, even the rational & pragmatic level headed individual has to acknowledge that our world/society is on the brink of collapse. Collapse being any number or reasons; whether it be a matter of a decaying moral fabric within societies, an increase of fatherless children, melting glaciers, human trafficking & an unraveling of our God inspired U.S. Constitutional values.

Many believers (and those with love guiding their hearts) have thought about this repeatedly - and many of us feel we have been waiting too long to contribute what we can do.

All hell will break lose but this is when we can all come together & face evil together, once & for all.

The lyrics also imply that the boundaries of evil are becoming close neighbors with what represents good & love. Whereby these opposing forces are colliding like never before. Worlds that were once historically oceans & worlds away are now bumping shoulders at every turn. Predators can now easily identify you, know of you & transgress against you but your heart is something that forces of darkness can never take.

So we say, let the sky fall - we will collectively stand up to the faces of evil & tyranny & face it head on.

Where you go I go... "you" to me implies "the good shepherd" in a religious context manifested in the body of brave men & women who defend us from real evil that exists in this world. We will purposefully seek out the real face of evil that exists & we will know we are safe - in a place of love, keeping us safe & hand in hand, because we will walk with Hashem/Yeshua/Love (all interchangeable).

I heard one of my best friends lay the piano part to this, first time I had ever heard it. And of course I love it now. :3

    My Interpretation

Nothing in the world can hurt you when you have people who love you. "Let the sky fall" is like saying, do your worst, because it is nothing against the support of your loved ones.

I actually think this is Adele's best song yet. It is very different for her and extremely well-done. It really seems to match the bond movie too; the clips with it are amazing.

Just saying that as two people's world crumble apart, they will stand together and endure the wreckage as best they can.
