Holy Ground

I think the coolest thing about Taylor's songs is that a lot of the time you can relate them not only to romantic relationships, but relationships of all kinds--parental, friendship, everything. For me, I can relate this song to a friendship I used to have. I had always seen in the movies and books how people could have these real best friends that they just got completely, inside and out. So I met this girl in middle school, and she became my first real best friend. We were both so cynical and weird. It was the first time I had something to lose.

And then of course years later we had a huge misunderstanding and then we just became really different people and never ever talk anymore. And I was so bitter about it for so long, and felt like all of the sudden I didn't have anyone. But this song helps me feel like maybe just remembering the crazy, good times is enough and that I can move on.

I like it except the 'dancing' part. I think it takes away from the song. But that's just my opinion, I'm a guy as well. I don't like dancing.

This Country-Rock stomper finds Swift reminiscing about a relationship that ran on "New York time" where for a short period, "everywhere we stood is holy ground." Regarding whom she is singing about, as far as we're aware, two of Taylor's exes were based in New York - Joe Jonas whom she had a relationship with in 2008 and Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal whom the songstress dated for about three months in late 2010.

Jeff Bhasker, the man behind much of Kanye West's, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album, produced this song. It is one of several tracks on Red that finds Swift collaborating with a variety of different writers and producers. She told CMT News: "This album was such an amazing experience because, for my last album, I just wrote it by myself. And so this one, I wanted to approach it differently because I never want to make the same album twice. So I would just call my songwriting and producing heroes and say, 'Hey, you want to work together?' And I got to work with some of my heroes, and I feel like I learned so much about other people's processes and other people's ways of doing things. It's so healthy as an artist to consistently put yourself in a room with people who are so different, style-wise, and so different in the way that they approach music than you are because it teaches you things. It teaches you new tricks."

So the song is about a flashback on a past relationship that failed in the end. However, looking back, one decides to focus on the positives the two went through and realize that, even though the two didn't last, their relationship was a good thing. Taylor explains it in Good Morning America (as well as all her other songs in the album).

I really like this track. Behind the heavy bass and drums, there's a serene vibe to it that lives up to the title of the song.

What intrigues me is the background vocals. When Taylor sings the second chorus, you can hear the back-up singers singing a catchy tune. Anyone else hear something like "Holy, Holy Hallelujah"? Just a thought.

I think it's about when you are moving on from a relationship. You're trying to remember the good things and not just the bad.

This song is so catchy and upbeat, every time I hear it I somehow get it stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Does anyone hear a resemblance between this song and "I'm Holdin' On To Love (To Save My Life)" by Shania Twain?

This song is so underrated-the lyrics are so good and so genuine (I guess we fell apart in the usual way and the stories got dust on every page) but overall this song is such a good breakup song because it describes being at peace with something ending. Yes it ended, and yes sometimes you miss them, but recognizing that it was a good relationship, and cherishing it for that is so important and a very mature thing to do. I would also like to point out the development from "tonight I'm gonna dance like you were in this room but I don't wanna dance if I'm not dancing with you" to "I'm dancing on my own, I make the moves up as I go" in Shake it Off

She’s looking back on her relationship with Joe Jonas. “Holy Ground” is a reference to his Christian faith, and appropriately so, since there’s not a lot of hints in the song as to who it’s about.

The one hint I pick up on is the dancing. Someone else said the lyrics about dancing didn’t really fit with the song, and I agree. But I think they’re more fitting and relatable when you look back to the saddest breakup song of her earlier years, ever, “Last Kiss,” where she says “I’m not much for dancing, but for you I did.” So here she’s referencing back to how she only liked dancing if it was with him.

This song is about someone who came to see her show in San Diego ( the secret message is " when you came to the show in SD") I think who ever came to her show made her nervous and excited at the same time
