I Think this song is deeper than it appears to be,

I think its about adolescence. All we go through in that part of our lives.

Here I go, Its going to be a long post:

"I'm a pale imitator of a boy in the sky, With a cap in his head and a knot in his tie." I think it means how some of us try to look cool to others, while hiding our real personality, hence the term: Pale imitator

"I'm the light in the mall when the power is gone, A shadow in a corner, just playin' along!" Its about those of us who are left out, Just a shadow in a corner, playing along to what people say

"I'm gonna lay in my bed, I'm rolling aside, But if a get a car- A moment to ride." All teenagers are really lazy and like to sleep, and they all want to learn how to drive.

"Because I know if I ever tear living with you You've got a holding chainAnd you don't know what to do! You'd stop!" I think its about the complications that parents get when their son/daughter starts acting stuborn (As any teenager)

"You wanna do it but you don't know what you doin' baby! A-a-a-a-aha! You wanna feel it, but you don't know what you're feeling tonight! And if you're thinking, and I don't know what you're thinking baby! A-a-a-a-aha! You go on thinking and you gonna make it alright!" A key part of the song, It means on how us teenagers, think that we are mature, we are ready for the things adults do, We wanna do them, feel them, but after all, we are still inmature, we dont know what are we doing, we are "babies" But we go on thinking that we can do them, we convince ourselves that we can

"I'm impregnable, incredible, the setting of quoI'm a late Jimi writer, not a heart and soul." I think it means on how strange we are in this age, We are impregnable because of all the trends that are targeted at teenagers, We're incredible because of how we are, not a child anymore, but not an adult yet. We are not heart and soul because parts of our personality are yet to be defined.

"Got Saturday night, enough's been said. If I ever had to do it, well, you know I wouldn't care." I think its about how some of us would rather go to parties than doing our chores (School homework for example)

"I'd just get down, I'm loving the feat, and if I wanna talk back, the message is free!" I think its about how we feel more mature, thinking that we can do things that are not yet for us, and thinking we can disrespect anyone (Hence the frase "Talk back")

"I never found a ray ,a knot in sight And if you can't partake, you get 'em alive You get a heart--ache" Confusing for me, maybe its about our need of acceptance, The heart ache is how we feel when we are left out

"Every time we try, we get nowhere! But wouldn't it be nice if we were just normal people, yeah. Trying so hard to act like we don't care... But it's true, you do, nothing is left, So I guess I'm right!" This is another key part of the song, We try so hard to fit in only to get nowhere, That goes down to us thinking "Wouldnt be nice if we where all the same?" (Normal people) We try to act cool, like things dont matter to us, we go around saying "I dont give a fuck" when the thing is, that we do care, we have problems that annoy us, and sooner or later, we have to admit them. The "I guess im right" part I think is said from the perspective of an adult, they have passed this part of their lives before, many of the things teenagers are going through, their parents have gone through them before, so theyre "right" when punishing their teenage children.

And now, the rapping starts:

" This talks about how some teenagers think that having a criminal life is awesome, and how they picture themselves as thugs or "gangsta"

"OK, OK, OK back to the happy zone, Rap ain't nuttin' but the art talking ish. My girl look pretty up there, ridin' it." This makes references again to the "thug life" some learning to rap and having sex at young age.

"My plaid pants, my solid future, Asinine ass, and a gorgeous coochie. I'm an outcast, but you're into me. Summer got mad cause Winter blew me. That juicy fruit, that shplooshy-shploosh. Generation X on bloop de bloop!" More references on how teenagers are acting way too much forward, They dress too much revealing, Going around behaving disorderly, And (again) having sex at a young age, Giving power to the new generation thats getting seriously fucked up.

"Get duked out, or get duked-duked. Er'rybody hit the floor, we through the roof, Ha! Like a chimney, I commend me. How come it be, some lame, man, Nigga talkin' 'bout "Aww, he don't rap enough" But y'all rap a lot and I'm like "Wrap it up, hoe" They all like to party, And annoy other people only because they dont do the things the "cool dudes" do (Like doing drugs, drinking, smoking, have sex, etc) And some of us start doing those things to "prove them wrong"

"Ye ain' Scarface, ye ain' Willie D, Ye ain' Bushwick, ye ain' killin' me. Better play wit' yo ma'fuckin' mama, Bet you still stay wi' yo ma'fuckin' mama. Keep sleeping on me, I'mma rock my pajamas! In the daytime I swear, I promise." This is in the perspective of an adult I think, Its about those strict parents who seriously disaprove bad manners on them, On how they picture themselves as independent, but yet still are dependent on their parents (hence the term "Mama") so they "promise" that if the youngster keeps behaving like that, they will give him a huge punishment.

"Dare a nigger say som', tear a nigga face off. How come blacks don't play baseball? Y'all white, know y'all can taste all this fly shit! I stay finna take off." A reference to black teenagers and their way of thinking. (I think)

"Do ya damn thang, do ya thang-a-thang. Do ya damn thang, do ya thang-a-thang! Do ya damn thang, do ya thang-a-thang."

The part the song receives its name from I think its said From the perspective of parents, and older people Kids, DO YA DAMN THING!!! The Adolescence is a fase of growing, of planning, just enjoy it, dont go directly to the adult stuff, Enjoy this age while you can!!!

"Bet it up, head erupts, A lava language, and the vocals volcanic. So I guess I'm right!" This last part its truly meaningful, the first repeated part is how older people try to give us advice, theyre right after all. But still some us ignore them (I dont care)

"Flip the page, our days are revelations (Hiiide!) Space is strange, doctor, I've got no patience! Oh, it's all a part of the process (Okay, okay) Nothin's new, it's true, cool, I admit, shit, I guess you're right!" And the last part is a resume of all, Everyday we learn more, theyre "revelations" "Space" may be our own mind, its strange, we dont understand nor like the new emotions we are dealing with. And the last 2 verses, make reference on those of us who admit and know whats happening to them that all is gonna change for them, and so, They admit that their parents are right, and admit their mistakes. ("Shit" may be for those teenagers who rather unhappy, admit their mistakes)

That was my interpretation, Pretty long, but nevermind, Its an awesome song of the Gorillaz, And proves the hidden brilliance of their lyrics.
