$Ting Lyrics

I try to be someone
I lied to be someone else for you

If I had done something
A little bit differently
We would have moved
In a better direction than this, baby

If you were human
If you were who I assumed you were
You wouldn't have done this

I thought I did something
But you would do anything
To bring me down (and she brought me down)

You say that you love me
But you act like you don't
You used to adore me, laughed at all of my jokes
Don't take this the wrong way
You put me in harm's way
When we had a first kiss, it was your favorite thing
And you weren't lying when you said it would sting
Don't take this the wrong way
You put me in harm's way
Imagine our children, how fucked they would be
Mommy's a psycho, daddy lives in a dream
Don't take this the wrong way

I told you I'm sorry, can't thank you enough
I thought that I loved you, but we weren't in love
We weren't in love
You were my dream
The way we would fuck
You like to think, but when pushed through the bad
Ignoring them problems, used to hold what we had
Don't take this the wrong way
Don't take this the wrong way

Cover art for $Ting lyrics by Neighbourhood, The

I feel like this is about a relationship between a man and a woman and she is the one causing the emotional problems -- for the most part -- in the relationship because she's most likely suffering from psychopathy (or narcissistic personality disorder).

Often the first signs of a psychopath are charm and everything suddenly seems perfect. They shower you in love, make you feel cared for, and then they fuck you over either physically, psychologically or both. None of their feelings are genuine, but they will do anything to make you believe them so that they can stick around as long as you are needed and they can use you to benefit themselves.

"I try to be someone I lied to be someone else for you" It's as simple as that. He tried to be somebody else for her; someone that he is not for the sake of keeping her satisfied.

"If I had done something A little bit differently We would have moved In a better direction than this, baby" This suggests that he is blaming himself for the failures in their relationship. Psychopaths don't take responsibility unless they have a reason and she might have made him believe it is his fault for their failing relationship.

"If you were human If you were who I assumed you were You wouldn't have done this" She put up a front for him and he realizes she wasn't being true or she wouldn't have hurt him the way she did. The 'mask of sanity' is described as the metaphorical mask that psychopaths wear to hide what's underneath, but sometimes the mask can slip. Maybe hers did in the end.

"I thought I did something But you would do anything To bring me down (and she brought me down)" Psychopaths find it amusing to humiliate or, like he said, bring you down. It's their entertainment. You don't have to do anything for them to suddenly manipulate you into something for their own shits and giggles. The girl he is talking about would do anything to bring him down for her own shits and giggles because she has no conscience about right or wrong; a classic trait of psychopathy.

"You say that you love me But you act like you don't You used to adore me, laughed at all of my jokes Don't take this the wrong way You put me in harm's way When we had a first kiss, it was your favorite thing And you weren't lying when you said it would sting Don't take this the wrong way You put me in harm's way" This stanza implies just what I said; the insincerity of the psychopath charming you into their life. They're indifferent about whether they put you in harms way or if you get hurt because of them. Their words say something, but their eyes show the opposite.

"Mommy's a psycho" implies that the girl probably has some problems upstairs. It could even be short for psychopath. "Daddy lives in a dream" could mean he doesn't want to admit that their entire relationship has been an utter lie, and so he's living in a dream where he doesn't have to remember the emotional trauma he's been through with her. He just wants their "perfect" beginning back.

"I told you I'm sorry, can't thank you enough I thought that I loved you, but we weren't in love We weren't in love" It was all an act that he bought.

"You were my dream The way we would fuck" Sexual promiscuity: something psychopaths have. They're described as fantastic in bed. But on the other hand, she was his dream, his comfort, his woman that he thought he loved, though it all seemed to good to be true.

"You like to think, but when pushed through the bad Ignoring them problems, used to hold what we had Don't take this the wrong way Don't take this the wrong way" She ignores the problems and the hurt that he has endured and now she's finally given up on trying to act as if she cares enough to put effort into their "perfect relationship".
