Temple Lyrics

The dance floor's a temptress
Can't make out what your saying

But you rub me the right way,
With your child-like persuasion

I got my hands in my pockets
And I'm crossing my fingers
Shoot fire, am I simple?
Stone washed up and so so

I'd take one in the temple
I'd take one for you
I'd take one in the temple (temple)
I'd take one for you
I'd take one in the temple (temple)
I'd take one for you

I feel all amiss now
I'm tossed in the scatter
And your eyes keep on shifting,
To the boys that don't matter
I've got my hands in my pockets
I'm still crossing my fingers

I'd take one in the temple
I'd take one for you
I'd take one in the temple (temple)
I'd take one for you
I'd take one in the temple (temple)
I'd take one for you

I've got my hands in my pockets
And I'm crossing my fingers
I just want to be noticed
I just want to be noticed

I'd take one in the temple (temple)
I'd take one for you
I'd take one in the temple (temple)
I'd take one for you
I'd take one in the temple
I'd take one for you oh
I'd take one in the temple (temple)
I'd take one for you

I see this song in the following way.. A shy guy, saw a beautiful girl on the dancefloor (or a crowded place) and he would love for her to only notice him so that they can strike up a conversation, but he is shy, so needs her to make the first move. "Crossing my fingers"

She is provoking him, but she's much more confident than he is. She lets him know that she can get any one of the other guys "Eyes keep shifting to the boys that don't matter" He still has his fingers crossed.

He will do anything to get the chance with her "I'd take one in the temple" Very strong words... Maybe a gunshot to the side of the head.

Bit late to the party here, but I just want to clarify the "I'd take one in the temple"-part because lots of people seemed confused about it. I'm 99% sure that it's a literal meaning, with 'one' being a bullet. He would take a bullet in his temple (part of your face/head) for that girl. So, really the meaning is he would do anything for her. It's not about an actual temple, it's not a bar in Dublin, it's not putting his d*ck in someone's face, hahaha. I had a good laugh while browsing the comments though ????????.

@Hotpot Those question marks were a thumbs-up emoji but those don't seem to work on this website :P

Are you sure it's "IN the temple", and not "ON the temple"? Alternatively, it's "one ON MY temple", I dunno. Surely he's singing about taking a blow to the side of his head for someone?

Front Grantland article:

"Similarly, when I listen to "Temple" — which is about how Caleb Followill would take a bullet to the head from somebody for love because he loves some other somebody just that much — my brain tells me to make fun of it as a reject from Andy Dwyer's song pile. But other parts of my body override my brain and tell me to turn it the fuck up already."

Temple can also be a religious meeting place. I don't know the bands religious affiliations- if there are even any- but I know they're from a southern area that is often visited by Mormon missionaries... Who worship God in there temples.

...Ahh the beauty of art

Nope. I'm pretty sure he means he wants to drive his dick into the side of a girl's head.... just sayin.

Lyric correction:

"Shoot fire, am I simple? Stone washed up and so so"

That is the only wrong lyric I see. My source is from the Kings Of Leon Mechanical Bull booklet, where the lyrics are printed.
