She's watching the taxi driver, he pulls away
She's been locked up inside her apartment a hundred days
She says, yeah, he's still coming, just a little bit late
He got stuck at the laundromat washing his cape"
She's just watching the clouds roll by and they spell her name like Lois Lane
And she smiles, oh the way she smiles

She's talking to angels, counting the stars
Making a wish on a passing car
She's dancing with strangers, falling apart
Waiting for Superman to pick her up
In his arms yeah, in his arms yeah
Waiting for Superman

She's out on the corner trying to catch a glimpse
Nothing's making sense
She's been chasing an answer
A sign lost in the abyss, this Metropolis
She says "Yeah, he's still coming, just a little bit late"
He got stuck at the Five and Dime saving the day"
She says "If life was a movie, then it wouldn't end like this"
Left without a kiss
Still, she smiles, oh the way she smiles, yeah

She's talking to angels, she's counting the stars
Making a wish on a passing car
She's dancing with strangers, she's falling apart
Waiting for Superman to pick her up
In his arms yeah, in his arms yeah
She's waiting for Superman

To lift her up and take her anywhere
Show her love and climbing through the air
Save her now, before it's too late tonight
Oh like the speed of light
And she smiles

She's talking to angels, she's counting the stars
Making a wish on a passing car
She's dancing with strangers, she's falling apart
Waiting for Superman to pick her up
In his arms yeah, oh in his arms yeah
She's waiting for Superman

To lift her up and take her anywhere
Show her love and climbing through the air
Save her now before it's too late tonight
She's waiting for Superman

    My Interpretation

I think the girl in that song is a single girl, who has never really dated being in relationships. But she believes that someone out there is her love. She believes in fate and trust that there is someone out there who would find her and love her and that love would be eternal. She's patient and waiting for her Soul mate" Therefore, she's tolerant of him being so late.

She says, “Yeah, he’s still coming, just a little bit late

She doesn't tire herself from waiting rather fantasize about the guy who would be magical.

"She’s just watching the clouds roll by and they spell her name like Lois Lane And she smiles, oh the way she smiles"

She's completely Okay with waiting therefore she smiles and LIVES her life. But she is very hopeful. She truly believes in SERENDIPITY.She sometimes doubt that she probably does not have a soul mate after all.Because it seems to her that she's already been waiting for a long time. The waiting is effortless for her because she does not want to fool around with guys, dating having fun rather is one of those who just BELIEVES IN ONE LOVE AND ONE LOVE ONLY.She know she's beautiful and capable.Guys love her and wants her but she Is STUBBORN to not get with them and Wait for her surprising piece of luck a fluke. But on certain occasions her ASPIRATIONS lose strength or momentum.

"She’s talking to angels, counting the stars Making a wish on a passing car She’s dancing with strangers, falling apart Waiting for Superman to pick her up In his arms yeah, in his arms yeah Waiting for Superman"

"She’s out on the corner trying to catch a glimpse Nothing’s making sense She’s been chasing an answer A sign lost in the abyss, this Metropolis"

Hence she thinks to herself. When the guy finally comes in her life that guy better make up for all the time she has wasted DAY DREAMING. She fantasize that guy to be pure GENTLEMAN.And ALL the things she wants in a a guy.She knows she is a good girl and she has never done anything wrong and BELIEVES that nothing wrong is going to happen to her.She deserves her ONE TRUE LOVE SOUL MATE.She is hopeful for a prosperous and magical Love. She seems to believe in Fairy tales. Her hopes her not that high though,All she wants;ove and happy life.

Therefore when the ASS of a guy who finally comes in her life better Has-

"To lift her up and take her anywhere Show her love and climbing through the air Save her now, before it’s too late tonight OH LIKE THE SPEED OF LIGHT And she smiles"

She is a nice girl. She believes Same conduct towards her will come. She knows she is going to treat Him" like a king if he is all she has hoped for.But she also knows everything has a timing. When the right time comes she is going to find her.THERE IS NO DESPERATION WORKING IN THIS SONG.When the time comes the guy better HAS-

"To lift her up and take her anywhere Show her love and climbing through the air Save her now before it’s too late tonight She’s waiting for Superman"

    My Interpretation

While it is stated that this song is meant to be about waiting for the right guy, I interpreted this differently, and I'd just like to share my thoughts on it :) So please don't read if you're looking for the actual meaning.

I've always thought that this was the story of a lady who loves a man who died, e.g

"'Yeah, he's still coming, just a little bit late He got stuck at the laundromat washing his cape'" Is a bit like she's in denial of some sort, saying that he'll come back, but he's not really going to.

"She's talking to angels," This might be why I thought of it like that, because my friend told me that she always thought that those who were insane and talked to thin air were talking to angels, or a higher deity of sorts. So I always took this as the girl is going slightly mad.

"Counting the stars," Generally, there is an almost infinite amount of stars, so one does not often count them. I took this as something to kill off time and worry.

"Waiting for Superman," While this can be interpreted as 'Waiting for the right guy,' I've always believed that she missed him so much that his very presence would soothe her mind, therefore 'saving' her from depression etc.

"Save her now, before it's too late tonight," Again, the 'saviour' thing, because she's worried that she'll dive a little too deep into this whole delusion/depression thing.

"To lift her up and take her anywhere," Like saying 'I don't care where you're going to take me, but I need you next to me,'

So... yeah. Just my interpretation, not the actual one :)

A girl, so broken and depressed by her past, knowing that there is someone out there to save her. Her Superman, looking out for her. Protecting her.

    My Interpretation

I believe that this song is supposed to show that everyone out there has there own 'superman' or soul mate and that even if you don't have your 'superman' yet he will find you and carry you away where you can live happily.

It's about a girl who has been broken down in the past. A girl who's not sure of her future. Her life ahead. She knows that there is someone who would hold her high and treat her like princess she deserves to be treated like. She knows that deep down inside of her, she would do the same too. She only has to say the word and he will come rushing into her arms

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about a girl who wants to find true love so bad. She is desperate to find her superman. But because she wants to find him so bad she is to trusting and will believe anyone if they tell her they like her. She makes excuse to herself of how awesome they are when they mess up, hence the "he's just all little bit late" and how he's doing all these amazing things.

    My Interpretation

When I first listened to this song, I thought it was about a girl waiting for a guy that she was dating to pay attention to her and love her the way she loved him. Now, after a messy divorce between my parents, depression, and a full fledged eating disorder, I realized that might not be what its about. Its definitely about love, but the way I'm interpreting it now is that a little girl is waiting for her neglectful father to pay attention to her. I've been in this situation far too many times before with my dad, and this song hits home for me with the lyrics. I could be misreading this completely, but that's what it means to me.

    My Interpretation

I would have to say that my interpretation was indeed a bit darker. When I read it I just saw a happy girl on a downward spiral. In my eyes it started off with a girl who's supposedly perfect guy left some how

"She’s watching the taxi driver, he pulls away She’s been locked up inside her apartment a hundred days She says, yeah, he’s still coming, just a little bit late He got stuck at the laundromat washing his cape”

In my eyes due to those specific lyrics I just imagine that the guy was off at war for 100 days. She hired a taxi driver to pick him up and when the taxi driver came back she was delivered the bad news, that Mr. Right was gone. She's automatically in denial telling herself "No, no, it's wrong. He missed his flight, he had to stop and get freshened up. This is a joke

It then goes on "She’s talking to angels, counting the stars Making a wish on a passing car She’s dancing with strangers, falling apart Waiting for Superman to pick her up In his arms yeah, in his arms yeah Waiting for Superman" She's talking to angels as in her lost man, and counting the stars passing time as she wishes that her lost man would come back. She's then wishing on cars saying the next one will be her hero, the super man who died at war. She keeps dancing with random people trying to forget her lost man.

It continues to this sad downward spiral verse "She’s out on the corner trying to catch a glimpse Nothing’s making sense She’s been chasing an answer A sign lost in the abyss, this Metropolis She says "Yeah, he’s still coming, just a little bit late" He got stuck at the Five and Dime saving the day” She says "If life was a movie, then it wouldn’t end like this" Left without a kiss Still, she smiles, oh the way she smiles, yeah"

She's out on the corner. In general terms being on the corner refers to prostitution. In my eyes I imagine she turned to prostitution hoping one man will be her lost man and keeps going and trying. She's confused and lost, trying to sort everything out. Yet she still believes theirs hope and she smiles making excuses for her lost man. Every now and then the truth hits her that it's not a movie, the lost to the war superman isn't coming back to sweep her off her feet and kiss her.

Oh the continuum! Let's see the next chunk of lyrics!

"To lift her up and take her anywhere Show her love and climbing through the air Save her now, before it’s too late tonight Oh like the speed of light And she smiles"

SO knowing my dark mind at this point maybe you can see where I believe this is going. The downwards spiral now takes this young once bright woman into what I believe is a world of drugs. With the lyrics "to lift her up and take her anywhere" sounds like a common reference to drugs and how they lift you up and take you amazing places. People on drugs often also feel that the drugs give them love and make them soar through the air. The lyrics "save her now before it's too late tonight" is as though she may overdose on the drugs that night. Then the quite depressing following words of "And she smiles". Before that chunk of lyrics it mentions her superman once again which I believe the position of superman has shifted from her lost man to her drugs.

    Voila~ There's my terribly depressing interpretation :^)

    My Interpretation

My interpretation of this song is a different than most of the others.

"She's talking to angels, she's counting the stars, making a wish on a passing car."

This girl daydreams a lot, and spends her time more focused on fantasy worlds than the real one.

"She’s been locked up inside her apartment a hundred days"

"To lift her up and take her anywhere Show her love and climbing through the air Save her now, before it’s too late tonight Oh like the speed of light"

She wants someone to break her away from her everyday boring life, and take her into one of her fantasy worlds, specifically one with superheroes, where she can be one. But anywhere different will work.

Now I could be completely off, but it is kinda how I feel, and I think it is one of the many meanings this might have.

Love in a Vacuum
'Til Tuesday
Well, in my opinion this song is about being a young & maybe a little naive &/or introverted girl and finding yourself loving a man who is at first very charming, carefree & outgoing, and seems at first to be without limits, as in "There was a time you opened up every doorway you didn't mind if everything wasn't your way" then that man starts to gradually become more introverted & shows their more possessive/obsessive side to you as the relationship progresses, even while they keep up the appearance of being carefree & outgoing to everyone else, "Don't pull away that goes against what you told me I look in your eyes I realize what you've sold me is love in a vacuum" so you confront them about the way they're acting and of course they deny it, "I think you've changed but you insist that that's not true" quite possibly they are an addict of some sort, my guess would be cocaine, &/or showing very obsessive behavior towards you (early on in the video for this song we see the man hanging a picture up, it is a very large portrait of Aimee & it is prominently displayed in his/their apartment for the duration of the song), thus their "love in a vacuum", "You look so strange, so distant that you're hardly you Now I can see how you have been acting different You say it's me but I know that it isn't it's love in a vacuum" but still you are in love with them and don't want to leave them and you know that they are truly in love with you and they don't want you to leave them either, maybe they are convinced you can save them from themself, maybe they are so broken that the possibility of an overdose &/or suicide attempt is very real and you want to get through to them that their behavior not only dangerous but it is also just pissing you off and if they don't wise up they run the risk of loosing you, as in the lines "You will be lonely if you leave me alone", so you want to save them but can't get through to them due to the addiction &/or emotional problems they have, "Love in a vacuum and that's not enough love in a vacuum You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way You will be lonely if you leave me alone You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way it's just not enough" you want them to understand that the love they are giving you is not enough when it is filtered through the vacuum of their drug addiction &/or emotional impairment, "You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way it's just not enough and just wait you will be lonely Love in a vacuum Love in a vacuum and that's not enough Love in a vacuum". 'Love In A Vacuum' for me is a hauntingly truthful acute argument on the loneliness of obsession and almost inevitable loss of love that follows people who are broken in some way or another; the obsessives, the coke heads, the drunks, addicts or the just-plain-old emotionally broken; a razor sharp, lyrically driven, deceptively poppy, yet ultimately-depressing-in-the-best-way song. Quintessential Aimee Mann.

Corpse I Fell In Love With
Gadjits, The
He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
