Fake Your Death Lyrics

Some people watch, some people pray
But even lights can fade away
Some people hope, some people pay
But why we have to stay

‘Cause even heroes get the blues
Or any misery you choose
You like to watch, we like to use
And we were born to lose

I choose defeat, I walk away
And leave this place the same today
Some like to sleep, we like to play
Just look at all that pain

You want the heart or to be saved
But even good guys still get paid
So watch my back and keep the blade
I think it got you laid

So fake your death, or eat your blame
And leave the lights on when you stay
Take off your clothes and dream that fame
Come on and feel that shame

I choose defeat, I walk away
And leave this place the same today
Some like to sleep, we like to play
Just look at all that pain

Just look at all that pain

Just look at all that pain
Just look at all that pain
Just gimme all for that pain
Just gimme all that pain
Just gimme all that pain

I choose defeat, I walk away
And leave this place the same today
Some like to sleep, we like to play
Just look at all that pain

Here's what I perceive it as:

Some people watch; some people pray, But even lights can fade away. Some people hope; some people pay, But why'd we have to stay?

In this verse, gerard is saying that why did My chemical romance have to stay? They knew everyone didn't want them to go, but the band wanted it to end, and soon, he's basically saying, we know you guys want us to stay, but we can't

'Cause even here; we're scared to bruise, Or any misery you choose. You like to watch; we like to use, And we were born to lose.

And in this verse, he's saying he doesn't want you guys to feel bad... he only wants to make you feel better, "We were born to lose" being that at the start he thought the band wouldn't get much attention, although they did, again with gerard being metaphoric again.

I choose defeat. I walk away, And leave this place, the same today (I did this because It suits the song more, even though it might be official, i feel like this version is better) Some like to sleep; we like to play. Just look at all that pain.

He's saying he gives up, he wants the band to end, he doesn't mind the pain he's causing, even though he may be sad about it, he feels its best, he's also saying, you guys should keep MCR in your heart forever, even though they're not there, leaving the same impression they had before

You want the heart and to be saved, But even good guys still get paid. So watch my back and keep the blade; I think it got you laid.

I don't know what the first to lines mean, but the second to I assume they mean: Keep defending us if someone insults us, you can do it, and we know this changed your lifes a lot... and even got some of you closer then before as a fandom, the getting laid part not being taken literally

So fake your death or eat your blame, And leave the lights on when you stay. Take off your clothes and dream that fake. Come on and feel that shame.

He's saying he better let you guys know he's officially ending this with a grand finale and not some sudden brake up like other bands do, he's saying as before to leave it how it is but keep MCR in your heart, and as most of your memories, he's also saying imagine what it would be like if we never gave you this song, or just suddenly broke up, feeling a lot of shame in that, we didn't do that.

Just look at all that pain. Just look at all that pain. Just gimme all that pain. Just gimme all that pain. Just gimme all that pain.

He's saying that he should accept the fact you guys hate it, but still go through with it, showing him saying: "I know you guys hate it, but we still want to go through this, no matter what"

Editor's note: Take note that this is only what I think and the first time I used this website

The song was written before the band broke up and before they intended on breaking up.

My Opinion

Sorry for that, never actually knew, I'll take it down then >->

If I can do that ._.

I think this song is about life in general. Or, more specifically, life after
something bad has happened. Im not really sure which

Some people watch; some people pray, But even lights can fade away. Some people hope; some people pay, But why'd we have to stay? First they talk about ways people go through life. Some people go through life with out really living- watching. Some hope and pray but their faith can waiver. Others try to buy their way through life. Any way you go though it you are still left with the question "Why are we here?/Why do we have to keep leaving?"

OR These are the ways people deal with tough stuff (the faded light) and "Why do we have to go though this?"

'Cause even here; we're scared to bruise, Or any misery you choose. If there is an afterlife, why be afraid of anythings as temporary as
pain or poverty or whatever you think is "misery".

You like to watch; we like to use, And we were born to lose. Again some "watch" life go by but some participate. whatever you do, nobody "wins" at life. Bad stuff happens. No matter how much good or bad you have, We all lose in the end. I choose defeat. I walk away, And leave this place THE SAME TODAY Here they are saying they are accepting their defeat, knowing that they cant always win, before they make the world (or situation) worse.

Some like to sleep; we like to play. Just look at all that pain. Some people (the watchers) pretend nothings wrong with the world or they just try to wait till the pain goes away. They have accepted the pain in life and found a way to still have fun despite it.

You want the heart and to be saved, Watchers want to know everything going to be okay again But even good guys still get paid. If good guys are being paid, either bad guys are still being bad or the good guys are just going to stick around to make sure the bad guys dont do anything So watch my back and keep the blade; I think it got you laid. Watch out for each other and dont let down your defence Even if things seem
good. It might pay off?

So fake your death or eat your blame, Either give up and start a new life (?) or accept what youve done And leave the lights on when you stay. Take off your clothes and dream AND THINK Make your self comfortable (in your life), feel free to dream about tomorrow but dont forget to think (about what youve done, what youre going to do) Come on and feel that shame. Dont be afraid to feel, no matter what feelings youre having.

I choose defeat. I walk away, And leave this place THE SAME TODAY Some like to sleep; we like to play. Just look at all that pain.

Just look at all that pain.

Just look at all that pain. Just look at all that pain. Just gimme all that pain. Just gimme all that pain. Just gimme all that pain. Now they are not only acknowledging the pain but offering (demanding) to take some of it.

I choose defeat. I walk away, And leave this place THE SAME TODAY Some like to sleep; we like to play. Just look at all that pain.

Some people watch; some people pray, But even lights can fade away. Some people hope; some people pay, But why'd we have to stay?

He is talking to the audience about the audience and mcr's situation. The light signifies success and even at the top of their career as performers they can still be ruined by a bad album at any time. "some people hope; some people pay, but why'd we have to stay?: this addresses the people again and the process of being with mcr and supporting them through everything, people hope with them and some people pay to see them. But at the end of the day. Why did they have to stay? They've entertained people for a long while and that is a good enough contribution.

Cause even here; we're scared to bruise, Or any misery you choose. You like to watch; we like to use, And we were born to lose.

This explains the fears of mcr. Because even at the very top of their career they're scared to fail. They are scared of criticism. He then explains that people as an audience enjoy their entertainment and they as performers like to entertain. But no matter at what point In their carrers as artists they were bound to fail. Whether on a high or in a low at some point they were gonna lose.

I choose defeat. I walk away, And leave this place, the same today. Some like to sleep; we like to play. Just look at all that pain.

But because of the fact they will eventually fail, he chooses defeat and leaves, but he leaves it the same as when he entered into it. Some other artists like to sleep. And lose their talent. These however like to play. This toys with the emotions he is feeling inside so it becomes very painful.

You want the heart and to be saved, But even good guys still get paid. So watch my back and keep the blade; I think it got you laid.

Performers give People their heart's through their music. The public still want them to perform. They want them to save them through their music. Through relating to lyrics. This is clawed as a way of saving someone. But even other performers that are out there that are just as good get paid. There are other bands out there." So watch my back and keep the blade" is Gerard explaining that because he is leaving and on good terms with the audience please don't stab him in the back when he's turned his back on you. Because throughout the years they've had many albums. Some that you would play to a girl/boy or relate to in a way that it helped you with a relationship of some kind so much so that it got you laid.

So fake your death or eat your blame, And leave the lights on when you stay. Take off your clothes and dream that fake. Come on and feel that shame.

So in the end you have two choices. You can fake your death, by carrying on and pretending that you're all still working at the top of your game and keep performing even though you know you aren't as good as you were. Or you can accept the fact that you are not what you once were and swallow your pride as there is no-one to blame it on. "And leave the lights on when you stay" But if you carry on you need to make sure that you're performing at the very best still at the pinnacle when the lights are shining. You need to take off your clothes and expose yourself to the world and dream that you aren't what you truly are. Let everybody revel in the shame. In the shame of the method acting of the performance he puts on. It's just a whole lot of pain. The pain of wanting to continue but not being as good as before and to leave whilst the flame is still shining and not dimmed out. Brilliant song. Hope this helped a bit, if at all.

I think this song can be taken as both about being on the short end of the stick in life[point 1] as well as about MCR's career/relationship [point 2]. "Some people watch, some people pray, but even lights can fade away. Some people hope, some people pay, but why'd we have to stay?" [1]This is how everybody views things-optimistically or pessimistically. Nonetheless, we wonder why do these kind of things happen? [2]This is how MCR views the fanbase. Some watch them and pay for their merch/abums/etc., and some pray that they stay a band.

"'Cause even heroes get the blues, or any misery you choose. You like to watch, we like to use, and we were born to lose." [1]Even people you admire have problems, depression, addiction, etc. Others just watch idly, but the narrator manipulates life- and ends up failing. [2]Referencing Gerard's depression/suicidal, Frank's health issues, and the other members' issues. The audience watches, and MCR gives them something to watch, but they still end up not selling records as well as their label would want, or maybe just physically they lose.

"I choose defeat. I walk away, and leave this place, the same today. Some like to sleep, we like to play. Just look at all that pain." [1]The narrator gives up on life, through suicide or just simply leaving and starting over. Either way, they think life goes on. While the rest of the world goes on unactively, the narrator likes to try and have a little fun, and thinks the rest of the world is lamenting for not doing this too. [2]MCR's retirement- the band thinks the industry will be fine and go on without them. Other artists would just hide from the public, the members keep up with their own projects. They either think this A-keeps hurting them, B-hurts the 'lazy' artists, or C-hurts the fans.

"You want the heart or to be saved, but even good guys still get paid. So watch my back and keep the blade, I think it got you laid." [1]Everybody wants to believe the best of people, but the good ones are only being good for profit. They don't realize the heroes are in it for themselves. The narrator has (in my opinion) had someone backstab him and steal his lover but it didn't affect him, OR they were backstabbed in another way that still didn't upset him, but it resulted in the offender getting something he wanted. [2]Fans are saved all the time by music and want lyrics to relate to, but artists just do this so they can get fame or money for it. MCR doesn't want their fans to end up hating them for this truth, and offer that they might have even gained from their music. "So fake your death or eat your blame, and leave the lights on when you stay. Take off your clothes and dream that fame. Come on and feel that shame." [1]Either give up and get lost, or man up and take the fall for what was caused and you can still be in the clear for hurting your pride. The next part may be saying that (as many people get infamous for flaunting their body, like models or other celebrities) and that you'l feel guilty but at least you'll be known! It could also mean to be 'naked', as in vulnerable, and to share your feelings in hopes of being noticed even if you feel terrible for it. [2]MCR sort of faked their death- they announced the split then released the album. This leads to rumors of 'Are they together still or no?' and they might feel like they're getting hated for this, although they're still giving new content (in reference to keeping the place lit.) The lines about taking clothes off is probably about how their songs were VERY personal, and their most heartfelt music was always bestselling- and knowing that their inner thoughts could reach the person it was about was nerve-wracking.

"Just look at all that pain. Just gimme all that pain." [1]Often times, especially with depression or self-harm, you'll sort of recover and then crave the sadness and pain again. The narrator is saying he wants just that. [2]As stated earlier with the prolonged mental and even physical pain of continuing with other projects or MCR, the band wants it again just so they can perform.

---just my thoughts. sorry if anything was really confusing!---

My Interpretation
Cover art for Fake Your Death lyrics by My Chemical Romance

I'm torn, from what we know about the album supposedly going to have been about a councilling group for parents who had lost children, some of this fits, I'll pick out certain lines -

Some people watch, Some people pray But even lights can fade away - (Picture the child in a hospital bed, possibly in a coma, the parent just watches their child helplessly, or they pray for their health to get better, and the light fading away is the parents' fading optimism)

Some people hope, Some people pay But why'd we have to stay - (As in obviously the parent hope's their child gets better, and they pay for the best possible doctor in the country to tend to their child in the hopes it'll work, not too sure about the last line)

But then as I read on, even if Gerard meant this to be about the concept of the album, I think deep down he was writing how he felt about the band and where he stood, the whole of this below you can't deny shows something that I think is about the ending of the band -

'Cause even heroes get the blues, Or any misery you choose. You like to watch; we like to use, And we were born to lose.

I choose defeat. I walk away, And leave this place the same today. Some like to sleep; we like to play. Just look at all that pain.

You want the heart or to be saved, But even good guys still get paid.

I completely agree with the last part. This song could be how Gerard felt about the band. But I don't agree with "I walk away, and leave this place the same today" it's not the same place anymore.

@candycoated I would think the last line in "Some people hope, some people pay, but why'd we have to stay" could refer to the death of the child and how the parents have to continue living.

Hello song meaning searchers. When interpreting or constructing a song you start with a subject. This song is about pain. What inspiration do they hsave for pain? 9/11 has been a good source but today 9/11 is the destruction of the middle east. The lyrics make me think of the futile atempt to change the status quo. We are sleeping through this war...

So sad that this song basically tells that they're gone. To me this just says that something amazing is accepting their break up, but still leaving something behind. Something that they left behind was something so special that I literally don't wanna say cos all the fans already know what it is :(

I just heard the song, then I tried making the piano part with my fingers (tap them on a table or something) and they made the contrary sound of the drums on cemetery drive, also by my chemical romance in the album three cheers for sweet revenge. What I suggest is that mcr's in for a comeback and they reused an old song that was meant for a friend (cemetery drive held a hidden message that was meant for a suicidal friend) to smoothen their way back to the top. Yes they're coming back, everyone knows, and wants that.
