Hey girl, open the walls
Play with your dolls
We'll be a perfect family
When you walk away is when we really play
You don't hear me when I say
"Mom, please wake up
Dad's with a slut
And your son is smoking cannabis"

No one never listens
This wallpaper glistens
Don't let them see what goes down in the kitchen

Places, places
Get in your places
Throw on your dress and put on your doll faces
Everyone thinks that we're perfect
Please don't let them look through the curtains
Picture, picture, smile for the picture
Pose with your brother, won't you be a good sister?
Everyone thinks that we're perfect
Please don't let them look through the curtains

D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E
I see things that nobody else sees
D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E
I see things that nobody else sees

Hey girl, look at my mom
She's got it going on
Ha, you're blinded by her jewelry
When you turn your back
She pulls out a flask
And forgets his infidelity
Uh-oh, she's coming to the attic, plastic
Go back to being plastic

No one never listens
This wallpaper glistens
One day they'll see what goes down in the kitchen

Places, places
Get in your places
Throw on your dress and put on your doll faces
Everyone thinks that we're perfect
Please don't let them look through the curtains
Picture, picture, smile for the picture
Pose with your brother, won't you be a good sister?
Everyone thinks that we're perfect
Please don't let them look through the curtains

D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E
I see things that nobody else sees
D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E
I see things that nobody else sees

Hey girl (hey girl)
Hey girl, open your walls
Play with your dolls
We'll be a perfect family

Places, places
Get in your places
Throw on your dress and put on your doll faces
Everyone thinks that we're perfect
Please don't let them look through the curtains
Picture, picture, smile for the picture
Pose with your brother, won't you be a good sister?
Everyone thinks that we're perfect
Please don't let them look through the curtains

D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E
I see things that nobody else sees
D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E
I see things that nobody else sees

    My Interpretation

Like each family, they seem perfect. But if they were to look through the curtains they would be shocked by what they saw

I think it's actually talking about people as in u think u know them but u don't always. People are like dolls sometimes they can be made of plastic ( fake) and there real personalitys are hidden. And what they are really like. Like they can be cheaters, druggies or achoholics and when it says "smile smile smile for the picture' it makes me think of people being there fake selves.

    Song Meaning

Basically, the song is from a little girl's perspective. Her mother gets drunk a lot, so her daughter won't see her in pain/crying because of the father cheating (and possibly abusing) on her. The little girl cuts in the kitchen, because she is lonely and ignored in the family. She does this daily, hoping one day someone will come into the kitchen concerned about her, but nobody else does.Whenever the family goes out in public, she feels like she's forced to smile, and forced to stand by them (Like in a picture). Her "dollface" is what she does around other people-faking a smile. The wall paper "glistens" because her eyes are filled with tears, so whenever she stares at her wall all she sees are blurry glistening lines. Her "curtains" are also like a mask for her: covering everything up (like her scars from cutting, and her emotional scars). She feels like she's living in a dollhouse, being controlled by someone else by strings. She wishes life could be more like her dolls perfect. But it isn't. She doesn't think it's fair to be so young, but have to see things that nobody else at school has to see/go through. Nobody ever listens to her problems, and nobody even comes to check on her if she's okay. Her mom's looks are starting to be affected by the alcohol she was addicted to, but she has such expensive and luxurious clothing that nobody even notices anymore. One day, her mother finally comes to check on her daughter, who is upstairs in the attic cutting herself. She hears her mother on the steps, and hurriedly puts on a "Innocent Face" so her mother doesn't suspect anything is wrong. One day soon they WILL see her cutting. And that's what she's afraid of. Finally one day at school, she just can't take it anymore and opens up to one girl, and tells her she want to commit suicide. After school, she does. Her family finally snaps out of the trance they've been in for years--thinking that everything is okay. But she still doesn't want anyone to know about her imperfect family.

    My Interpretation

I think this song means that there are people who think other people are perfect but when they're alone, they really aren't. Such as they can be a heavy drinker, smoking weed, or they can be a hooker.

I think this song meaning has to do with how you should never judge a book by its cover. She use the metaphor as a dollhouse, blocking out everything by its walls, and everything seems perfect. Until somebody discovers that something that seems perfect, is actually a horrible and pretty messed up family.

This song is very much like my life, it's sad, but nice to know that others can have similar feelings.

    Song Meaning

I myself believe that this song is about a girl who thinks that she's normal and just in this crazy family, and has witnessed horrible things, but really there is just as much wrong with her. Really with all of the things she's seen or heard around the house she's scarred and probably has major mental issues. The only way she's able to go through this madness is by acting like she's normal and still able to save the family hence " mom please wake up dad's with a s**t and your son is smoking cannabis" She's trying to tell the mom to make it stop but really the mom has just as little power as her

    My Opinion

Feels like me. I have fake friends but I have pretend I don't know, or else they will mentally abuse me. Family who are nice but don't understand me. I like this song because it isn't like songs that is about love then breaking up. I like songs that say somethings about this world. I would like to recommend a song to you, i grantee it's a beautiful song. It's called Still Here - Digital Daggers

    My Opinion

I feel like this song says that someone might sometimes seam perfect, but are actually not as good of an example as everyone thinks. Like celebrities are not always perfect, even though most people look up to them and feel like those celebrities are perfect since are popular. My point is that someone you look up to might not be as good of a person as you thought and that everyone has their own dark side ,even though might seam as the nicest person you ever met.

    Song Meaning

What seems like an innocuous and stable family in actuality is a facade put on by them to hide their dysfunctionality from the rest of society
