Oh, why do you treat me so
Oh, why do you treat me so

You cause me to weep
And you cause me to moan
You cause me to pack up
My bags and leave home

Oh, why do you treat me so

Oh did you hear the thunder?
Or the rain?
Means I'm coming home again
Means I'm coming home my friend

Oh did you steal my name?
Oh, you Jack of all trades
You're the master of none
Oh, the race has begun
I was born a champion
I was born to jump and run

Oh did you hear the rain?
Oh, the rain?
You can try and run and hide
Tearing at the chain
Oh, Lucifer's inside

Oh did your siblings tell you
I was wasting up your time
Oh, now you're wasting mine
You put me back in line
And I'm counting every link
And I guess you think that's fine

Oh did you hear the rain?
Oh, the rain?
You can try and run and hide
Tearing at the chain
Oh, Lucifer's inside

Oh, did I send a shiver
Down your spine?
Well I do it all the time
It's a little trick of mine
Did I make you shake your knees
Did I make him spill his wine
Lord, I'm spreading like disease
Know I'm all up in your mind
Oh, Lucifer's inside
Oh, Lucifer's inside

Oh did you hear the rain?
Oh, the rain?
You can try and run and hide
Tearing at the chain
Means I'm coming home again
Means I'm coming home my friend
Oh, Lucifer's inside
Oh, Lucifer's inside
Lucifer's inside.

    My Interpretation

I see this song as being sung from the viewpoint of Satan/Lucifer regarding his banishment from Heaven. (Keep in mind, I'm not religious)

"Oh, why do you treat me so Oh, why do you treat me so

You cause me to weep And you cause me to moan You cause me to pack up My bags and leave home"

    Being banished, of course.

"Oh did you hear the thunder? Or the rain? Means I’m coming home again Means I’m coming home my friend"

A storm is happening by Lucifer's hand, and he's calling out to God to say he is going to take his throne, as he spoke of before, causing his banishment.

"Oh did you steal my name? Oh, you Jack of all trades You’re the master of none Oh, the race has begun I was born a champion I was born to jump and run"

Stealing his name, referring to God telling his followers that Lucifer is evil and hellbent on destruction, which Lucifer feels is unjust at first.

The race has begun for who will rule and lead mankind. Born a champion etc refers to God creating him as a perfect being.

"Oh did you hear the rain? Oh, the rain? You can try and run and hide Tearing at the chain Oh, Lucifer’s inside"

Referring to his storm breaking into the minds of man, and tempting mankind to go against God.

"Oh did your siblings tell you I was wasting up your time Oh, now you’re wasting mine You put me back in line And I’m counting every link And I guess you think that’s fine"

I need to do a bit more research, but what I see this as, is God and the other angels conspiring against him to rid Heaven of him, and he remembers everything they did.

"Oh, did I send a shiver Down your spine? Well I do it all the time It’s a little trick of mine Did I make you shake your knees Did I make him spill his wine Lord, I’m spreading like disease Know I’m all up in your mind Oh, Lucifer’s inside Oh, Lucifer’s inside"

Again, referring to himself beginning to tempt mankind towards his own ways. "Spill his wine" specifically as wine is a common symbol in Abrahamic religions - making God and his followers taken by surprise at his uprising. Possibly also regarding his rebellion with the other angels.

With the "shiver down your spine, it's a trick of mine" part could also be applied to humanity. His sinister and unnerving presence.

Just my thoughts. Feel free to correct any of my knowledge on the story.

    General Comment

This song reminds me of a relationship breakdown, having to literally pack up bags and leave. Then to have their friends and family chiming in with their opinions of you - justified or not. And then the panic that ensues when they realise you were stronger than they thought and to then see all you had put into the relationship and you have already gone. For the person that 'left' they now see the darkness in the soul of their 'ex'. Just my interpretation! And yes, just come out of a shi**y relationship and this song came on the radio as I drove away. Gave me chills. Made me see these lyrics from a new perspective ????

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
