Override Lyrics

[Verse 1]
The ghosts have given up
Familiar haunts have had enough
Too much thought will give you doubt
And now they found you

It's safer in a cage
They can tell you what to say
All your dreams come with a price
so they own you

But what did you expect?
Was it too much to protect?
Did you understand they had selfish intentions?
When they were pulling you in opposite directions

[Chorus]
You don't know the hell that's coming
Everybody get on the ground
You don't know the hell that's coming
Everybody get on the ground
We are the override
We are the override

[Verse 2]
The dead don't know, the dead are lonely
A fascination fades
When this mercy execution
says it's over

You follow as preferred
Now their plans are undeterred
Who can bring them in to supersede
It's over

Even hate starts out as love
Sometimes when it's all you want
Maybe satisfaction will take you for granted
When all that's left is the emotion you abandoned

[Chorus]
You don't know the hell that's coming
Everybody get on the ground
You don't know the hell that's coming
Everybody get on the ground
We are the override
We are the override

[Verse 3]
You clawed out from nothing and I sent you back
Fought to the metal, and law's what you lacked
Covered in sores - you cannot be the one
You are the answer to why we have risen

You are not the way
You are judged to being afraid
You are simple and unchanged
We believe you should give up

Give up
Give up
Satisfaction will take you for granted
When all that's left is a life you abandoned

[Chorus]
You don't know the hell that's coming
Everybody get on the ground
You don't know the hell that's coming
Everybody get on the ground
We are the override
We are the override

[Outro]
Give up (x9)

Cover art for Override lyrics by Slipknot

This really isn't an easy song to understand but I think I have finally have some sort of Interpretation. From reading the lyrics there are a lot of throw-offs. Basically, sentences that have no connection to other sentences. The song is obviously trying to lead the listener into thinking it's a religious song. Ghosts, dead, hell, God, mercy etc... But that's merely a throw-off.

Deep down I feel that the song is trying to convey some form of habit breaking. Or trying to break free from something holding you back. In this case, it seems like the song is about loneliness and how things can break a person. Allow me to explain why...

"All your dreams come with a price, so they own you But what did you expect? Was it too much to protect? Did you understand they had selfish intentions? And they were pulling you in opposite directions"

This quote says a lot to me. All dreams come with a price and that is so true! The things we desire in life are usually to good to be true. For example, finding the perfect love. Usually a desire like that is just too much to protect. 9 times out of 10 people let you down and then pull you in opposite directions. Directions you do not want to go to.

In doing all of this you realise how lonely you feel. But a strong urge lurks in us all. An urge to fight back and be the Override.

Also notice how Corey says "we are the Override", this could imply that there are many of us out there who want to break the habits of self loathing. This is just my opinion though.
