I don't know where I am
I don't know this place
Don't recognize anybody
Just the same old empty face

See these people they lie
And I don't know who to believe anymore

But there comes you to keep me safe from harm
There comes you to take me in your arms
Is it just a game?
I don't know
Is it just a game?
I don't know

Pleading eyes that break my heart
So homesick I can't feel
But I know I must play my part
And tears I must conceal

There comes you to keep me safe from harm
There comes you to take me in your arms
Is it just a game?
I don't know
To keep you safe from my bow

Take my hand and my heart races
Flames illuminate our faces
And we're on fire
Blow a kiss to the crowd
They're our only hope now

And now I know my place
And now I know my place
We're all just pieces in their games

I feel this song is about a girl who is lost at first and can't find herself. Then along comes this guy into her life, her world. She wants to trust him, believe his intentions are good, but she can't be for sure because she doesnt know his heart. She thinks she is just apart of some game and she is'nt sure she wants to play, but the way he makes her feel is something she enjoys.

    My Interpretation

This song is truly my favorite song on the Hunger Games Soundtrack.

It truly fits in with what movie is trying to show. The song could be about Katniss ans Peeta, or Katniss and Rue.

Why Katniss and Rue? "..but there comes you to keep me safe from harm. There come you to take me in your arms." "..just the same old dainty face" -Perhaps Rue is speaking to Katniss about how she is scared, not recognizing anyone in the game, but she recognizes her face, realizing Katniss sacrificed herself to save her sister. and for that Rue feels she can trust her?

Peeta and Katniss? "..take my hand and my heart races. The flames illuminate our faces and we're on fire. Blow a kiss to the crowd. They're our only hope now" When they make their grand entrance through the crowd, they are onvviously on fire and...yeah-_- I don't want to spoil it any more than I already have.

But yes, this is my interpretation.

    My Interpretation

I think It's all about the rich and there games MY THOUGHTS -The people from the districts thinks they are only pawns in there game. -All there speeches are saying "Look how we take your loved one and break and kill them while you watch." How can they not be part of a game -WELL, they say it's a game but really it's a bloodbath on the screen. -Finally The BIGGEST thing here is saying and I quote "Is it just a game? I don't
know."-Birdy Shes confused if it's really just a game.

So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness". The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns) There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
