Madness Lyrics

I, I can't get these memories out of my mind
And some kind of madness has started to evolve
I, I tried so hard to let you go
But some kind of madness is swallowing me whole, yeah

I have finally seen the light
And I have finally realized
What you mean
Oh oh oh

And now, I need to know is this real love
Or is it just madness keeping us afloat?
And when I look back at all the crazy fights we had
Like some kind of madness
Was taking control
Yeah

And now I have finally seen the light
And I have finally realized
What you need
Mm

And now I have finally seen the end (Finally seen the end)
And I'm not expecting you to care (Expecting you to care)
But I have finally seen the light (Finally seen the light)
I have finally realized (Realized)
I need your love
I need your love

Come to me,
Trust in your dream
Come on and rescue me
Yes I have known, I can be wrong
Maybe I'm too headstrong
Our love is
Madness

According to a UK radio website i found this :The song seems to be about the mystery of a relationship, how feelings change and grow, madness growing in a relationship. Whilst the song never explains what it is, it explains how someone has seen the light and starts questioning the madness in a relationship after understanding problems and issues.”Now I have finally seen the light, I have finally realised, what you need”. Then the song kicks in to a very Queen-est guitar rift, then kicks off to the finale chorus, where both realise that they are actually in love, and the madness then makes sense. Its definitely been a while since a Muse love song and whilst this doesn’t kick off as sounding like a love song, it definitely ends like one and in true Muse fashion.

"You've had a fight with your girlfriend and she goes off to her mum's house for the day and you're on your own going: 'What did I say?'" says Matt, describing the song's inspiration. "I'm sure a lot of blokes have that experience in the early stages of relationships where you go, 'Yeah, she's right, isn't she?'"

As a quick note, I read the lyrics on Muse's official site and instead of Matt singing "I need to love", he actually says "I need YOUR love". I know it doesn't seem like that big a change, but to me changing the word "to" to "your" kind of gives the song a different meaning at the end where he is still longing for this person he's with.

It's a song about the realization of the reality and the value and significance of love. I have finally seen the light, I have finally realized I need to love.

A relationship is not perfect; it will have its problems, arguments, hardships, and flaws. It's about realizing that these imperfections don't matter because love is worth it. There are two basic motivating forces in life; fear and love. Love saves us from fear and suffering. It's about realizing that all love is madness, but we must pursue it nonetheless because we need to love, we need to experience the beauty of having something so great to live and care for.

My Interpretation

I like that interpretation!

I think the "madness" describes how love makes him feel out of control. In less emotional moments he is able to "look back" more objectively, and see that the madness is responsible for the crazy fights and keeping them together... at least until he has seen the end.

As the Merovingian says in Matrix Reloaded: "It is remarkable how similar the pattern of love is to the pattern of insanity."

I remember hearing in an interview right before his performance in Stockholm, which I think was their first live performance of the song (can't find the video of the interview) he said that he wrote this song after getting in some sort of argument with his fiancee, Kate Hudson, and she left him some time to think about their relationship and so in that time period he wrote this song.

So, I guess to me the song is talking about him finally realizing that she is what he needs and that he needs to show that he loves her. I love this song, the lyrics are very personal and have a lot of emotion in them.

I also remember (maybe in another interview) he said that this was his best song he's ever written because it's the most personal song he's ever done and he usually doesn't make songs so personal to him.

My Interpretation

I'm pretty sure this is about Matt dealing with his breakup with Gaia.

No, its about a fight he had with Kate.

Matt: "You've had a fight with your girlfriend and she goes off to her mum's house for the day and you're on your own going: "What did I say?" I'm sure a lot of blokes have that experience in the early stages of relationships where you go: "Yeah, she's right, isn't she?"

I felt it was about Gaia too, the second I heard it. I might be willing to accept this song is "really" about Kate and an argument he had with her if it wasn't for the fact that even today STILL all this time after his and Gaia's breakup he still sings "since I lost you" at live gigs, instead of "since I found you" when singing Map of the Problematique.

Many of the songs on Black Holes and Revelations are about his relationship with Gaia, and MotP is one of the most well...

The lyrics at the end of the song should read... "Come to me Just in a dream Come on a rescue me Yes I know I can't be wrong and baby you're too headstrong, our love is madness"

The song is about being able to put arguments and our own personal ego aside for love. He can't be wrong and she is too headstrong basically say the same thing. We are stubborn as people but putting aside our egos help us love and realize the love we need

The opening verse describes a period of time after a breakup that this person has had time to reflect on everything. Trying to let go. And in the pain of heartbreak you question everything that you've done and think about everything you did wrong. He crys out "I need to love" and it sounds like letting go.

This song isn't necessarily only about realising your faults and hoping that your love returns to you. When I listen to this I think there is a possibility that it means that he's come to terms with the relationship ending ( "now, I have finally seen the end" ), accepted that their love is "madness" or not healthy, and is hopeful for the future - asking for new love to come to him. "Trust in the dream", the dream being a more fulfilling love.

Yes, Yes, Yes! This is a break up song people. You live, and you learn.

This song makes me think of Heathcliff from "Wuthering Heights." I'm pretty sure Matt wasn't thinking of Heathcliff when he wrote the song, but I think the song is a perfect description of Heathcliff's "madness."
