One More Light Lyrics
Can I help you not to hurt anymore?
We saw brilliance when the world was asleep.
There are things that we can have but can't keep.
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In the sky of a million stars,
It flickers, flickers.
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are,
Or quicker, quicker.
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do.
In the kitchen, one more chair than you need, oh.
And you're angry. And you should be. It's not fair.
Just cause you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In the sky of a million stars,
It flickers, flickers.
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are,
Or quicker, quicker.
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do.
In the sky of a million stars,
It flickers, flickers.
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are,
Or quicker, quicker.
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do.
Chester wrote this for us, for all of us. Dealing with the loss of a loved one is the hardest thing you ever go through. The emotions, the pain that you feel. It's unbearable, but it makes us human.
I think he knew he going to end it when he wrote this for us.
This song helps, it helps so much with grieving not just from suicide but in general. Dealing with all the conflicting emotions coming out a loss by suicide. Anger, hurt, regret and loss.
We're all a "light" to someone else even if we don't know it and you will be hurting someone by ending your life. Even if that person simply had a brief "moment" with you, it's a loss they'll feel and won't ever let go.
In a way Chester hurt us to show us how we'd hurt everyone else if we committed suicide.
@darksadsky I get this sentiment to some extent. I know when I was younger I genuinely thought of ways to end my life but it was my family that stopped me. I had a young nephew and a niece and it was those growing up that kept me going. But then I think what about the people who have nobody? What about the homeless man on the street? Everybody walks on by, he has nothing, what's stopping him when he feels like that?

@darksadsky Actually, it was Mike who wrote this song.

I think the song is about the general apathetic attitude people have adopted today. A "who cares" type of mentality, "just another life, people die everyday, it is what it is" and here chester is saying "You say its just another light (life) flickering away, but I care"
even if the song is not about that, its still resonates with me in that way.

It's one of the greatest song that I have ever heard from Linkin Park! Based on my opinion, this is song is about life (Who cares when someone's time runs out, If a moment is all we are) Very deep meaning. So wonderful! This is a very nice song but at the same time, It's a very sad song.
I absolutely love this song. I was surprised when I listened to it. I definitely think of coping with death/loss, particularly suicide, when I hear this song (In the kitchen, one more chair than you need; And you're angry, and you should be, it's not fair Just 'cause you can't see it, doesn't mean it, isn't there). He talks about how he does care, even when many others may not.
I think this is definitely my favorite song by them.
One day there is gonna be one last light.

Hauntingly beautiful.
Linkin Park and more so Chester through his lyrics has shown me that the feelings I endure deep down are expressed through his lyrics, more so than other band has.
The chorus is something I have struggled with on a daily basis, when trying to deal with the loss of my best man in December 2015. Thank you Chester.
"Who cares if one more light goes out? Well I do."
I do too! RIP Chester.
@ryano23277 Hang in there Ryan O. My condolences to you.

I was best man to my best friend 3 years ago. A year ago he was diagnosed with 'early psychosis'. Every day I worry about him now. Suicidal thoughts, hearing voices.... all run through his head. I'm on the other side of the country and don't make enough money to go see him.

I worry a lot. Call him often. I feel for his new wife - it's hard on her too.

Did Chester know what he was eventually going to do when he wrote this, or other songs on the new album?
This seems to show signs of hope, but ultimately it wasn't enough to keep Chester from taking his own life. Truly sad.
@carrie34 Rumors have confirmed that it was originally written for Chris Cornell who has committed suicide on may 18th Now that Chester couldn't deal with his own depression & the death of Chris It was sadly too much for him to bear After I heard the tragic news this song has gotten a much more powerful meaning R.I.P CHESTER !!!

We as a socciety need to recogniize it as the disease it is, and jjust llike cancer, you have good days and bad days and sometimes the disease wins. You dont know when that will be, or how it will manifest itself.
My friend killed herself Thursday night, she hung herself. Her last message on Facebook was the link to this song and the caption "Bye" Her husband found her lifeless hanging by a cord in the garage. I'm heartbroken. We all are.

I believe this song is warning to others not to ignore signs when someone is acting depressed as if they may take their own life. Also a warning not to judge others for having a neurological illness or a mental illness or simply is not acting like themselves. We're all different but at times we all hurt the same. Before you a judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes comes to mind. Remember, a cry for help is not a sign of weakness, and coming to someone's aid is beyond important. An aunt of mine committed suicide when I was younger and I don't think a family ever heals from that.
@EternalTearsOfSorrow, I cannot even begin to tell u how sorry I am 4 ur loss... ????????

those question marks... guess u can't do crying emojis on song meanings. but still, I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

On a more musically technical interpretation, the line "Well, I do" at the end of each chorus ends earlier than expected, with 3 beats in the bar rather than 4 beats (like the rest of the song). The fact that there's a missing beat causes the listener to fumble and question why that line ended early. It alludes to the pain and confusion when ones life ends "quicker, quicker"; the composer invites the listener to feel as they did when writing this song.
