It was a weight on my shoulders
A strain on my back
But I love to have you, right there by my side
(You couldn't take it)
(You couldn't take it)
It used to be, when we are alone
We shared such beautiful moments
(But lately it's been such a mix)
(You couldn't take it)
(You couldn't take it)

Go on and say it
Was my love too much for you to take?
I guess you never knew what was good for you
Don't keep me waiting, say the words that you're too scared to say
I guess you never knew what was good for you
I need to hear you say it
Was my love too much for you to take?
I guess you never knew what was good for you
Don't keep me waiting, say the words that you're too scared to say
I guess you never knew what was good for you

I came home to see you, you weren't around
Excuses were one right after the other
(You couldn't take it)
(You couldn't take it)
You woke up from another dream, another fight you didn't mean
Still, time after time
I came running to get you
(You couldn't take it)
(You couldn't take it)

Go on and say it
Was my love too much for you to take?
I guess you never knew what was good for you
Don't keep me waiting, say the words that you're too scared to say
I guess you never knew what was good for you
I need to hear you say it
Was my love too much for you to take?
I guess you never knew what was good for you
Don't keep me waiting, say the words that you're too scared to say
I guess you never knew what was good for you

(You couldn't take it)
Another heart, another day
So much time just thrown away
(You couldn't take it)
You know I love to be in love
(You couldn't take it)
So tired of trying to show you
I worked so hard

Go on and say it
Was my love too much for you to take?
I guess you never knew what was good for you
Don't keep me waiting, say the words that you're too scared to say
I guess you never knew what was good for you
I need to hear you say it
Was my love too much for you to take?
I guess you never knew what was good for you
Don't keep me waiting, say the words that you're too scared to say
I guess you never knew what was good for you

I guess you never knew
I guess you never knew what was good for you
I guess you never knew
I guess you never knew what was good for you
I guess you never knew
I guess you never knew what was good for you
I guess you never knew
I guess you never knew what was good for you

The narrator has been neglected by her lover, and is resentful for being underappreciated. The opening two lines make it clear that she realizes the relationship is not in a good place. She is self-aware enough to know that now she just loves having him "right there by my side"; maybe she doesn't necessarily love him anymore. "Lately it's been such a mix" and she is tired of being let down constantly.

Her significant other can't handle how much she wants from him ("Was my love too much for you to take?"). Her love is the all-consuming kind where she wants to spend every moment with him, but he thinks he doesn't love the same way. She knows better, she knows that after they break up, he will realize that she was "what was good for" him.

She has been picking up on hints from him that he is over her ("you weren't around"). He had "another dream" of something (another woman, them breaking up?) and started "another fight you didn't mean". But when she confronts him, "Excuses were one right after the other". She is tired of his excuses and of him being "too scared to say" the truth. "I need to hear you say it", that he is done and they are over so that she can move on. She resents him for not appreciating her, and also for hiding his true feelings and not being honest.

She also resents herself for treating him so well ("Still, time after time I came running to get you") despite how he neglected her. "Another heart, another day... So much time just thrown away... You know I love to be in love ... So tired of trying to show you ... I worked so hard". She can't believe that she put so much effort into something that he is just throwing away. He took advantage of her loving to be in love, and took her for granted.

The song ends with her repeating that he doesn't understand how good he has it. He "never knew what was good for" him, he is taking her for granted and he will lose her because of it. If he doesn't man up and tell her how he feels, she will step up and end it for them both. Then he will be sorry, once she is gone he will realize how good he had it.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
