I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
While some of this suggests that the subject is a love interest with a white car, I wonder if this isn't another nod to Stevie Nicks.
Nicks has an album titled "In Your Dreams" (dreams are mentioned in the song) and the album cover features a white horse. The lines suggests s/he first saw the white mustang early in the summer "...the day [a] record dropped." "In Your Dreams" was released May 3rd of 2011.
White mustang is a euphemism for the guy's cock. Sounds ridiculous but that's what it is. She slept with him and though she was told he was a "killer" (lady killer), she couldn't help but to fall for him. He was probably a musician she admired and she thought he could change his ways, but now she sees that he never will.

Summer is coming to an end she wishes she would’ve called the guy she liked more. She believes in summer love but knows he is bad news for her and it will only get her in trouble if she pursued him . Everyone around her doesn’t want them to be together but she can’t help the way she feels and is drawn in to him , white mustang is a reference for his dick .
