I'm young and I'm foolish, I've made bad decisions
I block out the news, turn my back on religion
Don't have no degree, I'm somewhat naive
I've made it this far on my own
But lately, that shit ain't been gettin' me higher
I lift up my head and the world is on fire
There's dread in my heart and fear in my bones
And I just don't know what to say

Maybe I'll pray, pray
Maybe I'll pray
I have never believed in you, no
But I'm gonna pray

You won't find me in church (no) reading the Bible (no)
I am still here and I'm still your disciple
I'm down on my knees, I'm beggin' you, please
I'm broken, alone, and afraid
I'm not a saint, I'm more of a sinner
I don't wanna lose, but I fear for the winners
When I try to explain, the words run away
That's why I am stood here today

And I'm gonna pray (Lord), pray (Lord), maybe I'll pray
Pray for a glimmer of hope
Maybe I'll pray (Lord), pray (Lord), maybe I'll pray
I've never believed in you, no, but I'm gonna

Won't you call me?
Can we have a one-on-one, please?
Let's talk about freedom
Everyone prays in the end
Everyone prays in the end
Oh, won't you call me?
Can we have a one-on-one, please?
Let's talk about freedom
Everyone prays in the end
Everyone prays in the end

Oh, I'm gonna pray, I'm gonna pray, I'm gonna pray
Pray for a glimmer of hope
Maybe I'll pray, pray, maybe I'll pray
I've never believed in you, no, but I'm gonna pray

    My Opinion

    In my opinion...

In the first verse, he talks about the decisions he made. He says they're not true and they aren't affected by religion or the news. He says "I made those decisions, not anyone else". And he adds "I've made this far on my own". Which means he's not feeling any regret about his choices. But after that, he says "that shit ain't been gettin' me higher, I lift up my head and the world is on fire". Which means he has something in his mind that made him uncomfortable about life. He sees a world on fire, he's very sad and angry about the things that happen in the world. He has fear in his heart and bones. He knows what's going on in the world but he can't do anything, he has no words to say. Even he was saying something, nobody would've heard him.

In the chorus, he says "maybe I'll pray, I've never believed in you but I'm gonna pray". I think he means that he's not believing in God but he's going to pray anyway because he's got nothing to do about the things that happen in the world.

In the second verse, he says "you won't find me in church, reading the bible but I am still here and I'm still your disciple". I think he means that he won't go to church, he won't do the things that God tells him to do but he says "Here I am! Begging for you to help me, help the world! Please help me and the world!". He expresses his emotions very clearly. "I'm broken, alone, and afraid". In all of these sentences, he talks to god. And after those, he tells him that he's not a saint and maybe he might be a sinner. He thinks he will end up in hell so he says "I don't wanna lose, but I fear for the winners". So I think he believes that the most painful lives deserve heaven. So the losers in the earth will become the winners in the afterlife. So he says "I don't want to be a loser in this life and I am feeling sorry for the losers in this life. Why do they have to live with pain to deserve heaven?". And then he expresses his feelings about it. He says "When I try to explain, the words run away. That's why I am stood here today". Which he means that he can't explain this to the people. He can't find the words to explain his pain enough. That's why he's talking to god. Because if there is a god. And if he is the almighty god. He wouldn't need my words to understand me.

In the second chorus, he once again says he's not believing in God but he's going to pray for a glimmer of hope. He's got no expectations but he still has hope.

In the bridge or third verse(I don't know), he's getting angry with the god. He wants to talk to face to face. If he could talk to him, he will get his answer about God's existence. He says "let's talk about freedom". So he is very angry with him and he wants to ask him about the biggest problem of humanity. He wants to ask him about freedom. He wants to talk to him about the suffering people around the world. He's looking for the answers. Why? Why are we suffering? Why can't be happy? Is there a god? If there is, why is he watching? Why isn't he doing anything?

Thank you for reading and please, criticize me :)
