Two hearts, one valve
Pumpin' the blood, we were the flood
We were the body and
Two lives, one life
Stickin' it out, lettin' you down
Makin' it right

Seasons, they will change
Life will make you grow
Dreams will make you cry, cry, cry
Everything is temporary
Everything will slide
Love will never die, die, die

I know that, ooh, birds fly in different directions
Ooh, I hope to see you again

Sunsets, sunrises
Livin' the dream, watchin' the leaves
Changin' the seasons
Some nights I think of you
Relivin' the past, wishin' it'd last
Wishin' and dreamin'

Seasons, they will change
Life will make you grow
Death can make you hard, hard, hard
Everything is temporary
Everything will slide
Love will never die, die, die

I know that, ooh, birds fly in different directions
Ooh, I hope to see you again
Ooh, birds fly in different direction
Ooh, so fly high, so fly high

When the moon is lookin' down
Shinin' light upon your ground
I'm flyin' up to let you see
That the shadow cast is me

I know that, ooh, birds fly in different directions
Ooh, I hope to see you again
Ooh, birds fly in different directions
Ooh, so fly high, so fly high
Ooh, so fly high, so fly high
Ooh, so fly high, so fly high

I think this song is about the death of a loved one to death and the one who passed is the bird flying around looking down on the one left behind “I’m flying up to let you see that the shadow cast is me”. The song is sung in the birds perspective, the one who passed away giving reassurance to the one left behind.

    My Interpretation

What a masterpiece this song is! Actually the writer describes the philosophy of life through these abstract lines including a mom and her child as the characters. Mom is the first and best teacher in our life. She teaches us how to live, how to fight for our betterment, how to mould ourselves with changing situations(here, changing seasons). Mom wants to teach her child that everything is temporary in life. But one thing is eternal throughout, LOVE. At the end, it has been shown in the video that the mom has died. But after a while, we get a clear idea that she is still alive in her child in the form of all her teachings and affection she has left for her child. She would always guide her child and help him to fly even higher, higher and would see her child kissing the skies which is metaphorical to getting the essence of life....

I really loved this song and the meaning conveyed by it ...According to me I got it as it's meaning is that everything is temporary ...Seasons would make you change, life will make you grow and change will make you cry, when this verse comes in second portion we can see people laughing at boy but all that is temporary ,all sympathy you get in form of love will only never die...Even when you wish you could have relived the past understand the fact Seasons change but birds fly and keep moving on and in different directions and because of this wish lets hope to see again...Here mother is shown who to save the kid who is distressed by the fact how everyone treats and can't move on takes a flight to show mother he can escape this fact that we should not be stuck on thing...Seasons keep changing..Mother to save the kid dies and their directions also are different(birds fly in different directions since mother dies) and the love is there immortal and we hope to meet again to show how everything is connected through love...So fly high shows kid flying high and meets the soul of his mother and learns the fact by this happening that we should move on even in difficulties

So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness". The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns) There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Fast Car

"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
