St Jude Lyrics

Another conversation with no destination
Another battle never won
Each side is a loser
So who cares who fired the gun?

And I'm learning so I'm leaving
And even though I'm grieving
I'm trying to find the meaning
Let loss reveal it
Let loss reveal it

St Jude
The Patron Saint of the lost causes
St Jude
We were lost before she started
St Jude
We lay in bed as she whipped around us
Maybe I've always been more comfortable in chaos

And I was on the Island and you were there too
But somehow through the storm I couldn't get to you
Oh St Jude, somehow she knew

And she came to give her blessing
While causing devastation
I couldn't keep my mouth shut I just had to mention
Grabbing your attention

St Jude
The Patron Saint of the lost causes
St Jude
We were lost before she started
St Jude
We lay in bed as she whipped around us
Maybe I've always been more comfortable in chaos

And I'm learning so I'm leaving
And even though I'm grieving
I'm trying to find the meaning
Let loss reveal it

And I'm learning so I'm leaving
And even though I'm grieving
I'm trying to find the meaning
Let loss reveal it
Let loss reveal it

I absolutely love this song and it's probably my favourite off of the new album. St Jude obviously carries a substantial amount of sadness to it, perhaps a love that wasn't going anywhere due to unforeseen differences, etc. I get a sense of hopelessness whenever I listen to it. As though the protagonist has tried and failed to make things right, and even though the love's still there it's as though it's impossible to fight for. It hurts she's leaving but she's learning more about who she is and she's kind of lost in translation of her own life and the problems it comes with it.

That's how I relate to the song.

I absolutely adore it. The new album is going to be beyond words.

I've got a pretty bizarre theory about this song so bare with me. I think the song is written from the perspective of death and first realizing that when she touches people she kills them. St. Jude represents a miracle or good medicine or whatever that is saving the person. The song is written addressing the person close to death. This is my theory. It's pretty morbid but the lyrics tell the story for me. The song has a helpless tone (death having the loneliest existence) and well as an admiration of St. Jude.

This song resonates with me on such a profound level, something which Florence's songs do often haha. So bear with me here- I think this song on the surface is about a lost relationship, but on a deeper level I think this song is about society, and Florence 'opening' her eyes in a sense. "Another conversation with no destination, Another battle never won, And each side is a loser, So who cares who fired the gun?" almost sounds like it's referring to the trivial affairs and trials of a materialistic society. People bickering and being egotistical is commonplace in an ignorant society, and Florence is calling it out. And she's learning these things, so naturally, she's leaving. Which will force her to withdrawn from the trivial experiences of life, which causes her to grieve, but she feels she must find the true meaning of life. I could keep going, but I've already written a ton. Just a thought to ponder :)

I think this song is about war."Another battle never won Each side is a loser So who cares who fired the gun?" It seems like she is trying to find the point and hope that maybe things could change. St Jude may be a reference to hope, often saints are those who are there to help others. Florence Is trying to find hope in the oblivion of pointless wars that lead to nothing but each side losing, waiting for her blessing.

The song is literally about an actual storm that happened, named St Jude, which caused devastation but then the rebuilding afterward was a kind of economic boom to some particular island nation...I forget which one. But the singer is comparing, I don\'t know, her emotions and relationships to that song, kind of.
