Hunger Lyrics
But my lungs feel so small
I couldn't breathe if I tried
My beating heart wanted more
But I'll keep it in and keep you out
I'm drowning, I'm drowning
There was nothing left for us to do
But I tried, oh I try
There is nothing staring back at me
I'm in need of a sound
But this hunger it isn't you
Voices disappear
When you're speaking in sombre tunes
And when you're starving
You'll need it too
But this hunger it isn't you
It isn't you
It isn't
Let me go because you are just a shade
Of what I am not what I'll be
I forget sometimes just how to breathe
Fill my lungs with a sound
But this hunger it isn't you
Voices disappear
When you're speaking in sombre tunes
And when you're starving
You'll need it too
But this hunger it isn't you
It isn't you
It isn't
I'm drowning, I'm drowning
I'm drowning, I'm drowning
I'm drowning, I'm drowning
I'm drowning, I'm drowning

Have you ever felt this feeling that you need to let someone close to you go? If yes, this beautiful composition, brought to you from Of Monsters And Men’s upcoming album “Beneath the Skin”, would be perfect choice for your evening playlist by the window (or if lucky, on top of the roof). New single “Hunger” almost feels like an address or confession of the one who goes through this ambivalent state where despair, attachment and hope dance a tango in trio.
My beating heart wanted more But I’ll keep it in and keep you out I’m drowning, I’m drowning
Sometimes, there comes a moment when you fear feel that you are so distant and yet so physically close at this moment. Only as the silence progresses and emerges in its space and time, you understand that saying nothing at all is even more scary than most of the words you’ve never said out loud. Nevertheless, it does not shatter your will to be complete and fight for what you have been cherishing all these years. But the more you try, the more it takes its toll on you.
But for the longest time I knew There was nothing left for us to do But I tried, oh, I try And in this quiet company There is nothing staring back at me I’m in need of the sound
And now, when you put up your mind, made decisions, you realize that you cannot let this overflowing anger and sorrow flood the one you love. You can be hungry for revenge, for cry, for kill. But you never let your inner worries trouble your lover. Because you know, it is you who troubles you in the end. You drown. You drown.
Hungry for the kill, but this hunger, it isn’t you Voices disappear when you are speaking, in somber tunes I will be the wolf and when you’re starving, you’ll need it too Hungry for the kill, but this hunger, it isn’t you It isn’t you, it isn’t
Close to the finale of the song, each individual instrumental part unite and build up for the last outburst of sounds and feelings, in style we loved from their previous album. As tension rises to its peak, Nana and Ragnar sing loudly last words of this beautiful piece of music.
I’m drowning, I’m drowning I’m drowning, I’m drowning I’m drowning, I’m drowning I’m drowning, I’m drowning

I think this is a song about two people who both know they don’t want to be together and aren’t meant to be together but are both really horny. Idk but that’s just my interpretation. Especially the ‘hungry for the kill, but this hunger released in you…it ends in you’ songs a bit like orgasm to me…
"you are right, I'll move on, but my lungs feel so small" Man- that is hauntingly beautiful
