Long & Lost Lyrics

Lost in the fog, these hollow hills
Blood running hot, night chills
Without your love I'll be
So long and lost, are you missing me?

Is it too late to come on home?
Are all those bridges now old stone?
Is it too late to come on home?
Can the city forgive? I heart its sad song

I need the clouds to cover me
Pulling them down, surround me
Without your love I'll be
So long and lost, are you missing me?

Are all those bridges now old stone?
Is it too late to come on home?
Can the city forgive? I heart its sad song

It's been so long between the words we spoke
Will you be there up on the shore, I hope
You wonder why it is that I came home
I figured out where I belong

But it's too late to come on home
Are all those bridges now old stone?
But it's too late to come on home
Can the city forgive? I hear its sad song

Cover art for Long & Lost lyrics by Florence + the Machine

This is my favorite song from the album!

I believe it is about the singer's thoughts after the breakup from her lover. She is feeling lost, in the cold and in the dark. I think the "city" is the relationships and the "bridges" are the feelings of love that are now gone. She want's to return home, to try and repair the relationship (Is it too late to come on home).

Then she is asking her lover if he is waiting for her, if it is too late to try again. She has decided to try again because it is where she belongs.

But at the end of the song she realises it really is too late, they just can't be together again.

My Interpretation

@angelika I totally agree with you ! This is the best song of the album, and I can't stop listening to it for the last months. I sing it, I dance it, I breathe it ! And I share your interpretation, it is sharp ;)
