Love Paranoia Lyrics

I may not be as honest as I ought to be
Now that when the walls go up
I said it didn't worry me but it hit me like an arrow
Babe, to know, I can just be paranoid
Won't quell the desire to know what was really going on
"Does it really fucking matter, babe?" Is all you can ask me
Okay, fair play, here we go

I've heard those words before
Are you sure it was nothing
Cause it made me feel like dying inside
Never thought I was insecure, but it's pure
Didn't notice until I was in love for real
Am I really gonna cross the line
Just to find what your typing
If only I could reach your mind
Oh, I'd be fine, I'd be normal
Now's my time, gonna do it

And suddenly I'm the phony one
The only one with a problem
True love it bringing it out of me
The worst in me, and I know now
Do you remember the time we were
The time we were by the ocean
I didn't care if it was day or night
The world was right where I wanted
Girl I'm sorry
Babe I'm really, really sorry

This song is how love often turns into paranoia

The relationship has turned sour, they have started distancing themselves from each other - "when the walls go up" - and the he wasn't "as honest as he ought to be" when he said "it didn't worry me", but it's actually hurting him - "hit me like an arrow" "does it really fucking matter?" is the response he gets when he starts becoming concerned about what's happening to them, and so he becomes even more despondent - "okay, fair play, here we go" The more this happens (and it's happened many times before), he becomes more insecure (which being "in love for real" has brought out) and thinks there is someone else in her life. He want's to "cross the line" of trust and check what she's typing to others - once trust is lost, everything is lost. And so, the final verse is remembering how good they used to be and how much he would give to go back there. He ends with saying he's sorry since he knows that he's become paranoid, which will most probably lead to the end of their relationship

My Interpretation
Cover art for Love Paranoia lyrics by Tame Impala

Well, I used to pass this one over and over whenever I'm listening to Tame Impala's, however, Now it becomes clearer and I really think it should be placed in my top ten of the band.

I may not be as honest as I ought to be Now that, when the walls go up I said it didn't worry me But it hit me like an arrow. -the speaker is in some kind of a relation, he feels drowning inside cause the partner is probably treating him like trash, there's ice need to be broken in between but she doesn't care anyway, and thus he think of it as a no problem, like, what the worst thing could possibly happen? And what actually happend is she's cheating on him! And he felt that menace crawling around until he's sure so it is "an arrow" right through his heart.

Babe, to know, I could just be paranoid Won't quell the desire to know What was really going on "Does it really fucking matter, babe?" Is all you can ask me Okay, fair play, here we go. -they're finally talking their feelings, expressing fears on one side, and the other's just being whatsoever naught! So he feels he's exaggerating the wohle thing up, he admits of it, you are right bebe! "I could just be paranoid." Biggest toxic thingy she did to him is to make him see himself as a bad, drama-queen partner for her.

The song continues through parts of confronts and memories. Toughest thing to ever be felt is our love, our everything to be given is just unfit or no enough to make the other one happy.

JonJon, I'm pretty sure this song is pretty much about jealousy.

To me it sounds like his lover has done something to make him unsure whether all of her love belongs to him (my guess would be that she talked to another guy, maybe an ex with unresolved issues) Sounds like when he asks her what is going on she says "does it really fucking matter"

Which of course sounds like there really is something else going on, which spins him into a spiral of paranoia. In short his extreme feelings of love for her drive him crazy and make him insecure.

he song is about a couple who agreed to go out and be together but without commitment. the boy thought he would take this in a fresh way but unfortunately he realizes that he fell in love. Now he can not control his feelings and she does not belong to him, because from the beginning she was clear that she did not want a relationship. Now he feels frustrated and paranoid with the idea of how beautiful it would be if they both say yes to love. But they y are things that only happen in his head.
