Roots Lyrics
Don't tell anybody
Trouble finds me
All the noise of this
Has made me lose my belief
Another day, another door
Another high, another low
Rock bottom, rock bottom, rock bottom
I'm going back to my roots
Another day, another door
Another high, another low
Rock bottom, rock bottom, rock bottom
I'm going back to my roots
To know which road to pave
Trouble found me
All I look for was
Washed away by a wave
Another day, another door
Another high, another low
Rock bottom, rock bottom, rock bottom
I'm going back to my roots
Another day, another door
Another high, another low
Rock bottom, rock bottom, rock bottom
I'm going back to my roots
Hell will always come before you grow
Trouble found me, trouble found me
I know it's gotta go like this, I know
Hell will always come before you grow
Trouble found me, trouble found me
Another day, another door
Another high, another low
Rock bottom, rock bottom, rock bottom
Another day, another door
Another high, another low
Rock bottom, rock bottom, rock bottom
I'm going back to my roots

I think this song is about a boy who hasn't seen his family/friends in a while, so he is going back to see them. But on the way, he faces many dangers.

I like this band because the meaning of their songs seems generally more accessible, and more constructive, than other popular bands. This song is no different. The juxtaposition of the opening scene in the music video, adoring crowds, with the repeated refrain of "rock bottom" is something everyone can relate with: at our highest and proudest, there is the shadow of an almost equally strong darkness. Reference: countless rock stars dying by suicide or drug overdose. "Another high, another low." Is this not the story of all of our lives? Here's a band at the summit of success being vulnerable and telling us that no matter where life takes you, you are a cohesive whole whose baby videos and childhood dreams are somehow every bit as significant - perhaps moreso - than the greatest fame and fortune.
