You're giving me a million reasons to let you go
You're giving me a million reasons to quit the show
You're givin' me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin' me a million reasons
About a million reasons

If I had a highway, I would run for the hills
If you could find a dry way, I'd forever be still
But you're giving me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin' me a million reasons
About a million reasons

I bow down to pray
I try to make the worst seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather
I've got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one to stay

Head stuck in a cycle, I look off and I stare
It's like that I've stopped breathing, but completely aware
'Cause you're giving me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin' me a million reasons
About a million reasons

And if you say something that you might even mean
It's hard to even fathom which parts I should believe
'Cause you're giving me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin' me a million reasons
About a million reasons

I bow down to pray
I try to make the worst seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather
I've got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one to stay

Oh baby, I'm bleedin', bleedin'
Stay
Can't you give me what I'm needin', needin'
Every heartbreak makes it hard to keep the faith
But baby, I just need one good one
Good one, good one, good one, good one, good one

When I bow down to pray
I try to make the worst seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather
I've got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one, good one
Tell me that you'll be the good one, good one
Baby, I just need one good one to stay

    My Interpretation

Although I have been playing this song for a while, it was not until something similar happened to me that I fully felt and not just understood its meaning. It is about one person giving everything, and the other giving next to nothing.

The speaker has been led on. They have found out about it through many ways. However, if there was an easy way (the highway), they would choose to go the harder route because that is their romantic character. But it doesn't mean they like chasing people--they would settle down ("be still") if that person reciprocated in the same way.

The speaker, seeks God for answers regarding this person. When they feel bad, they turn to religion. The leather even has significance: They want a higher power (the only hope they have) to reveal why this person is leading them on. The answer would help them discover the reason to stay.

In the next verse, the speaker is describing how they feel around this person. When you think about it from the outside, you might wonder why someone would want to be with a person who is leading them on. They feel like this love is real because it is natural and yet still they still feel lofty around them. When the person says something that is underneath their leather, it just confuses the speaker more because of the conflicting messages.

The bridge reveals that "every heartbreak," (not individual people, but rather every single repetitive reason), makes it harder for them to suppose it will work. However, one reason, not necessarily confirmation from the person, but rather their feelings for them, will make them stay connected.

This song is despondent because it shows how something illogical is indeed logical. I feel like this song understands me and it makes me feel better. I hope anyone reading this who now knows its true meaning garners something from it too.

    My Opinion

i think songs can be interpreted in different ways, depending on listeners. To me personally this feels like a song about suicide. Like the narrator has millions of reasons to end their life, but just one good reason to not do it would be enough for them to keep living. the other, more likely, interpretation is that the narrator is contemplating whether or not to leave their significant other, who is giving them good reasons to, but the narrator wants the so to give them at least one reason not to.

    My Interpretation

To me, this song is from the perspective of a person at the final straws of their Christian faith. They have so many reasons to give up on religion, become an atheist etc. but they want to keep on believing for whatever reason. They find themselves pleading to God for just one shred of proof or reason to stay, but nothing comes. This is about as plain an anti-religion song can get.

And if you're wondering about the more romantic language, I think that was written there just to add some ambiguity, but it doesn't compromise the message, as oftentimes Christians use romantic language to describe their relationship with God (I would know, I was one)

Yea this can definitely go one of two ways.

1- Its about being in love with someone that really doesn't deserve it, they kind of just wish you to the way-side. But, just the same, you love them and you REALLY want them to fight for this love.

2- It could also be about losing someone you love. Suicide. I just recently lost someone a few years ago, in that form, and it really shakes your faith. It makes you angry. It makes you confused. It makes you feel like you lost something you will never get back.

IDK. I actually came here to see what everyone else thought. But unfortunately, there are only 2 comments. I really like this song and have been listening to it along with a handful of other songs. They make me super-moody. I try not to listen to stuff that makes me feel like... stuff anymore because it tends to turn negative. But, I really like this song so I listen anyway. Moody af.

    My Interpretation

I believe she stole the lyrics from the movie "Big Eyes" (2014). In one of the scenes actor Christoph Waltz says "don't think of a reason to say no, 'cause I have a million reasons to say yes."

    Coincidence? I don't think so.

Being in a relationship with an alcoholic (addict).
The constant let downs, the lies, the degradation, the disappointment and broke promises. But you are always clinging to hope that your partner will get it together and pick you over his drink. You suffer in silence, whilst most of your friends and family don't understand what you are living with. But you keep holding on to that little bit of hope for sobriety, until you realize you are the only one fighting for the relationship or for that person's wellness.

Love in a Vacuum
'Til Tuesday
Well, in my opinion this song is about being a young & maybe a little naive &/or introverted girl and finding yourself loving a man who is at first very charming, carefree & outgoing, and seems at first to be without limits, as in "There was a time you opened up every doorway you didn't mind if everything wasn't your way" then that man starts to gradually become more introverted & shows their more possessive/obsessive side to you as the relationship progresses, even while they keep up the appearance of being carefree & outgoing to everyone else, "Don't pull away that goes against what you told me I look in your eyes I realize what you've sold me is love in a vacuum" so you confront them about the way they're acting and of course they deny it, "I think you've changed but you insist that that's not true" quite possibly they are an addict of some sort, my guess would be cocaine, &/or showing very obsessive behavior towards you (early on in the video for this song we see the man hanging a picture up, it is a very large portrait of Aimee & it is prominently displayed in his/their apartment for the duration of the song), thus their "love in a vacuum", "You look so strange, so distant that you're hardly you Now I can see how you have been acting different You say it's me but I know that it isn't it's love in a vacuum" but still you are in love with them and don't want to leave them and you know that they are truly in love with you and they don't want you to leave them either, maybe they are convinced you can save them from themself, maybe they are so broken that the possibility of an overdose &/or suicide attempt is very real and you want to get through to them that their behavior not only dangerous but it is also just pissing you off and if they don't wise up they run the risk of loosing you, as in the lines "You will be lonely if you leave me alone", so you want to save them but can't get through to them due to the addiction &/or emotional problems they have, "Love in a vacuum and that's not enough love in a vacuum You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way You will be lonely if you leave me alone You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way it's just not enough" you want them to understand that the love they are giving you is not enough when it is filtered through the vacuum of their drug addiction &/or emotional impairment, "You will be lonely you'll be the only one who feels this way it's just not enough and just wait you will be lonely Love in a vacuum Love in a vacuum and that's not enough Love in a vacuum". 'Love In A Vacuum' for me is a hauntingly truthful acute argument on the loneliness of obsession and almost inevitable loss of love that follows people who are broken in some way or another; the obsessives, the coke heads, the drunks, addicts or the just-plain-old emotionally broken; a razor sharp, lyrically driven, deceptively poppy, yet ultimately-depressing-in-the-best-way song. Quintessential Aimee Mann.

Word Alive, The
This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
