Breadfan (Budgie cover) Lyrics

Breadfan
Open up your mind
Open up your purse
Open up your vault
Never, never gonna lose it

Breadfan
Take it all away
Never give an inch
Gotta make a mint
Gotta make me a million

Breadfan
You got it wrong
Some long time friend's gonna lose it
In the end who's a fool

Seagull
Give it all away
Stay a bird
Stay a man
Stay a ghost
Stay what you wanna be

Loser
Give it all away
Never stay with the winner
With the man
With all the filthy money

Come on
Keep it on the side
With a ride
On a record on the top
If you're gonna be a bad boy

Breadfan
You got it wrong
Some long time friend's gonna lose it
In the end who's a fool

Seagull
Give it all away
Stay a bird
Stay a man
Stay a ghost
Stay what you wanna be

Breadfan
Open up your mind
Open up your purse
Open up your bones
Never, never gonna lose it

Breadfan
Take it all away
Never give an inch
Gotta make a mint
Gotta make me a million

Breadfan
You got it wrong
Some long time friend's gonna lose it
In the end who's a fool

Seagull
Give it all away
Stay a bird
Stay a man
Stay a ghost
Stay what you wanna be

Mommy, where's Fluffy?

Clearly this is about a greedy dude, someone obsessed with money. 'Bread' is slang for money. There are references to 'flithy money', 'gotta make a million', etc.

Its kinda ironic that Metallica would cover this song since they are on of the richest bands in the world, and have a problem with . I just saw the movie 'Some Kind of Monster', and Lars was selling some of his art collection. Pieces were selling for a few million here and there.

And he has a problem with people downloading a few free songs...

Good point vilenin. I also appreciate the irony of this song (as well as 'Battery'... 'go against the grain until the end') . But Breadfan was originally released as a B side to a Master of Puppets single, before Metallica was really mainstream. IMO Metallica changed a lot after Cliff Burton died (he died while they were touring on the Master of Puppets tour). Honestly I don't like anything after Master of Puppets but I am glad for them that they have achieved the success they desired.

So Metallica can't sing about greed because they're rich? Fuck your stupid Metallica deserves everything they have unlike most of the rich people in the world. They earned their money with insane talent and hard work. Fuck all you Metallica haters, you're just posers who don't know shit.

i think this is something to do with drugs, maybe the word 'breadfan' was another word for a particular type of drug.

Great song, I enjoy Budgie's version also. "Seagul give it all away", Jonathan Livingston Seagull?

Rather strange lyrics, as you would expect with any other song made originally by Budgie. The original isn't quite as heavy, but it is a great showcase for Budgie's axeman Tony Bourge's skills.
