Dusty Lyrics
And I think I like it
I think it's turning back around
Though I don't know why it is
I think it's turning back on me
I'm down on the upside
I think it's turning back on me
Now I'm the good ride
It's backing down and under
I'm down on the upside now
It's turning back around
Turning back around
Just like you said it
I think it's coming on the wind
And I'm gonna let it
Everything's easy
I think it's turning back on me
Everything's real to me

Great song! One of my favourite songs off Down On The Up Side. I basically agree agree with the interpretaions here. Although I find the title quite strange... Dusty?? I expect something to do with "coming on the wind - just like you said it - coming on the wind - and im going to let it" Actually even as I write this im getting an idea.. Maybe it relates to how Chris sings "I think its turning back around - though I dont know why it is". He's "down on the upside", eg. Rising out of depression, but he doesnt know why that is. But its "coming on the wind" and hes "gonna let it". He's allowing himself to be guided by forces outside of himself - going with the flow, where the wind blows ("on the good ride") - choosing to become like dust in the wind. Hence the title: Dusty...

this song is just about feeling better about yourself its about sudennly realizing that every thing is gonna b allright

.. even reading the lyrics, i felt exactly what youre talking about...

coming out of depression

I agree with you all. Can someone answer this? Do you think that the Down On The Upside album might be about Chris' marriage with Susan Silver? I mean he says shit like "I shot my love today" on burden in my hand and "pretty noose is pretty pain" on pretty noose. If this is true then he is clearly pissed of with his wife, susan silver, and other evidence is that he is now going to take her to court, as he believes she ripped off the band. And by the way, I'm referring to all of Chris Cornells lyrics, not the rest of the band.

i think dusty can be an interpretation oftakin off that dust in you and have a cleansing when you decide to turn back and start over again.

its about karma and how luck is always changing for better or worse, none the less it always changes.

What happened to these guys during the write phase of this album?

I get a total feeling of rebellion from this song. Chris is trying to portray the feeling of a rebellious mind getting what he wanted. He's becoming excited of the fact that he is finally turning himself "upside down". He ensures pride in "nothing's gonna put me out, it's backing down and under". The person is lettin himself free (from the oppressions of society, maybe) and now "everything's easy", "everything's real to me". He's now letting himself be full of the dust carried by the wind of revolution. He's becoming dusty.

very (semi-oddly) inspirational song
