Is this the place that I want to be
Is it you who I want to see
Holding on, hold it high, show me everything
And you're leaving me, yeah you're leaving me
You're leaving me with a hated identity

But I keep on a comin' here and standing in this state
And I'm never really sure if you'll take what I'm saying the right way
But I'm not appalled or afraid verbal pocket play
Is as discreet as I can muster up to be
Because the Cadillac that's sittin' in the back
It isn't me
Oh, no, no, no it isn't me
I'm more at home in my galaxie

Can I do the things I wanna do
That I don't do because of you
And I'll take a left and I'll second
guess into a total mess

And you're leaving me
And you're leaving me
you're leaving me with a hated identity

No no no no it isn't me
No no no no it isn't me
No it isn't me
I'm more at home in my galaxie

I sorta of see what you mean doki_pen This song makes me believe that galaxie has a double meaning like one would be his Car and the other in his head like his world when he was high "I'm more at home in my galaxie" as if his altered reality is more molded to comfort then sobriety ever can be. Its as if he could feel his sanity slipping away and when he would start to lose it. "It isn't me" I have always loved blind melon for their incredible sound and just don't think it can be the same without Hoon

But now Hoon's up there watching from his Galaxie

    My Interpretation

I think most of you are right about the first love thing... but it's not a girlfriend... it drugs...

The Cadillac represents his home life with his "Wife" and new baby... since it sat in the back ally.... He got the Galaxie when they were recording Soup in New Orleans.... Shannon would cruise around in the car and get high... unfortunately it where he was more "at home". This song has to be one of the saddest out there if you hear it through my interpretation.... lets hope it means something different to the little girl he left behind.

He feels judged for who he is. When he finally realizes he's been living a lie for somebody else, it's too late. He's lost himself and the only escape he has is when he's driving alone on the road.

I absolutely love blind melon. Their southern rock and funk sound always seemed kind of folkish. I believe Shannon's voice really brought the entire band together. The world really missed out when he died.

Anyway, it took me forever to figure this song out. This guy who is fairly well off was dating this girl who didn't have as much money. He's telling her he doesn't like his cadillac but he loves his Ford Galaxie (a cheaper car) trying to show her money isn't everything, and it isn't.

This a song about his first love, like he says it in a live version. What was his first love? His Ford Galaxie. It's like a part of his identity, and means a lot to him, he won't let anything or anybody take it away from him.

This is a song about getting out of a relationship before it is too late or at least questioning it. Leaving before you become someone you don't want to be or you're put in a situation you can't escape.

Shannon's 1st car, that he drove even after he made it big, was his Galaxie. A simple, basic piece of crap...that not many people would love, but he did. And that car was a representation of him and who he was comfortable being...even if people around him weren't happy with that

The reference to the Cadillac is that of a decent lifestyle. It is a symbol of status and respectibility and everything he wasn't comfortable being.

But with all that said...throughout the song he def seems to struggle with just walking away..he keeps second guessing himself and which honestly makes sense, because with all of our first loves isnt it hard for us to just give up on and move on...

The song is about his first love obviously, and how close and passionate yo can become about it, yet when you try to leave you've become so accustomed to it it's hard to.

Personally, I love this song because it perfectly described what had been going on in my life. I was with a girl for a long time, didn't know if being with her was making me the person I wanted to be or remain to be, met someone else who knew I could be with and be the person who I know I really am, and although I was just comfortable with the other one, I could be something more with the other.

Well, blindmelon.org is generally right, as it's written from interviews of the band, about meanings of songs. It says that Shannon wrote this about his car, a 64 Galaxie that he LOVED. The passenger door wouldn't even open lol :) He wanted that car though, so he got it. He said he would ride around in it to clear his mind and that he could just climb in and all of a sudden it was like the radio only played his favorite old songs. Like a time machine! :) I think there's more to it though. I think he wrote this about his fans too. I really think he didn't believe he could write good music unless he was high. I think he felt like he had to get high to be loyal to his fans.

"Is this the place that I want to be Is it you who I want to see Holding on, hold it high, show me everything And you're leaving me, yeah you're leaving me you're leaving me with a hated identity"

I think that he knew he was dying, and he was torn between whether to get sober and live or to stay high for his fans (to have "good" music). He just didn't realize that he could've been just as great without the drugs, only he could've lived longer and made even more fantastic music. RIP Hoon, you were a FANTASTIC writer and singer!! :) We miss you!!

It's about being a drug addict and keeping a "low" lifestyle. A lifestyle associated with ppl of a lower class. Someone, probably a woman, wants him to straighten out and be upper class. He admits his true self is looked down on (hated identity). He's tried(he bought the cadi), but in this song he realizes that he has to be himself, a low class drug addict. His galaxie is the real-life symbol that lets him put into words how he feels. There is a lot of truth to it, but also a lot of denial. It sad is some ways.
