Gun Lyrics

I got an idea of something we can do with a gun
Sink load and fire till the empire
Reaps what they've sown
Shoot shoot shoot till their minds are open
Shoot shoot shoot till their eyes are closed
Push push push till we get some motion
Push push push till the bombs explode

I got an idea
We can do it
All on our own
Nothing to worry
Regret must weigh a ton
Kick kick kick till the laws are broken
Kick kick kick till the boots are worn
Hit hit hit till the truth is spoken
Hit hit hit till the truth is born

Gah, make that underrated or overlooked. WHAT WAS I ON?!

i think the lyrics are more sarcastic. its satirizing the mentality of war and bloody revolution by sarcastically saying to shoot people "until their minds are open". its a ridiculous and hypocritical line, its pointing out that you can shoot anyone you want to get your way, but violence doesnt truly solve anything.

@Furthest1 Spot on. This song is totally sarcastic.

The most simple and obvious explanation to this song is that it's about what the american government seems to think about inventions and leadership, ruling and war.

I got an idea of something we can do with a gun Sink load and fire till the empire Reaps what they've sown (Obviously highly against 'the empire' AKA late 80's US Gov, suggesting we take to revolution or just take a gun and. . .) Shoot shoot shoot till their minds are open Shoot shoot shoot till their eyes are closed Push push push till we get some motion Push push push till the bombs explode (Progress toward more open minded culture. The entire song is just about what to do about our mentally imperialistic government, and eventually letting the truth become an ingrained part of the people)

i think this is about our right to shoot government officials once they start coming after us. just look at s.w.a.t. teams. gun control and abortion are the only two things i really agree with the republicans on, both are wrong.

Wow. This song has to be one of the most underlooked Soundgarden songs out there. Simply amazing...

This is from Wiki

"The song's lyrics appear to relate to the views of some Constitutionalists and Libertarians on the right to bear arms as a protective measure against tyrannical government. It has an overall theme of violent revolution. The line, "shoot shoot shoot 'til their minds are open" becomes a double entendre in this context."

interesting stance the band takes here. Keep in mind this was written in the Reagan/Bush years "the right to bear arms as a protective measure against tyrannical government" so I imagine that was a jab at the party in power during that day. Much of the meaning is probably symbolic here.

What's with the amount of idiocy here?

Stop trying to amend the song to fit with your political interests. Really, the song isn't that difficult to interpret; interpret the meaning in the perspective of a gunman with a lust to kill -- for whatever reason, it DOES NOT explain it, and Soundgarden was never really a political band (although there are a few political implications in a few songs). The song is supposed to be a terrifying account of a shooting spree, and perhaps Soundgarden wanted to experiment with emotions like fear.
