Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.
Sea of Sin
I'm swimming in
And I'm taking a dive
My mind's in need
So my body feeds
And it keeps me alive
It gets better and better
As it gets wetter and wetter
Sea of Sin
Know where you've been
But I don't care
Sea of Sin
Through thick and thin
For better or worse
My mind's in need
So my body feeds
And it quenches my thirst
You look cheaper and cheaper
As we sink deeper and deeper
Sea of Sin
Know where you've been
'Cause I've been there
Here, under God's sky
His watchful eye
And all of the lies
My consolation prize
Sea of Sin
My second skin
My home from home
When I'm in doubt
My hands reach out
And I'm never alone
It gets wetter and wetter
As it gets better and better
Sea of Sin
Know where you've been
And I'm prepared
Sea of Sin
Know where you've been
Yes I'm aware
Sea of Sin
Know where you've been
'Cause I've been there
Sea of Sin
Know where you've been
And I don't care
Sea of Sin
Know where you've been
And I don't care
I'm swimming in
And I'm taking a dive
My mind's in need
So my body feeds
And it keeps me alive
It gets better and better
As it gets wetter and wetter
Sea of Sin
Know where you've been

He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Know where you've been And I don't care Sea of sin Know where you've been And I don't care
This song is about acceptance, love and forgiveness to me He's aware of all that has gone down, and does not care.. It's a beautiful song to me
I think its about seeking escape from some kind of void in life in sin (sex/drugs/whatever). One of the best DM songs ever.
hm reminds me of Reptile... sounds like he's sleeping with a cheap whore...
haha, love the above comment about cheap whore. does sound like that "Know where you've been, And I dont care". better watch out Dave for those blisters on your balls
i dont think its about forgiveness, its about sex.. im pretty sure its the 1 thing all humans can agree on, sex is good. in our lowest times (cheap), i think the wetter/better lyric is self-explanatory.
I see the Sea of Sin as all the fans willing to jump into bed with them. They leave home and there's always fans out there ready to jump in the sack.
to moobyjoe, Dave didn't write the song. And they probably all use condoms anyway. That's a low blow.
Kaicille Eris is right it does sound alot like Reptile
Agree with the other people, sounds pretty much like Reptile; he's sleeping with a whore to calm the tension in his mind.
It's definitely about sex, and perhaps a bit about infidelity itself. "Wrong" sex is a lot hotter than anything prim and proper, and this is a theme throughout Depeche Mode songs. Instead of BDSM, this song is simply about being able to get laid on demand... the skankier the groupie, the better, as it doesn't actually matter. The band knows they are hot commodities and somewhat used themselves; who are they to judge these random skanks?
Well, I've been a bit reluctant to accept this song's fair sexuality as "it gets better and better as it gets wetter and wetter" sounds too much...hum... You know :) So to say about "you look cheeper...as we go deeper" Looks like Dave's really reaches out to a girl who likes spending time with men. Reminiscent of "The happiest girl" for its context
