We took this trip to Garden Grove
It smelled like Lou-dog inside the van, oh yeah
This ain't no funky reggae party, $5 at the door
It gets so real sometimes, who wrote my rhyme
I've got the microwave, got the VCR
I got the deuce-deuce in the trunk of my car, oh yeah

If you only knew all the love that I found
It's hard to keep my soul on the ground
You're a fool, don't fuck around with my dog
All that I can see I steal, I fill up my garage

'Cause in my mind
Music from Jamaica, all the love that I found
Pull over there's a reason why my soul's unsound

It's you
It's that shit stuck under my shoe
It's that smell inside the van
It's my bed sheet covered with sand
Sitting through a shitty band
Getting dog shit on my hands
Getting hassled by the man

Waking up to an alarm
Sticking needles in your arm
Picking up trash on a freeway
Feeling depressed everyday
Leaving without making a sound
Picking my dog up at the pound
Living in a tweaker pad
Getting yelled at by my dad

Saying I'm happy when I'm not
Finding roaches in the pot
All these things I do
They're waiting for you

This is hands down my favorite Sublime song. Puts me in a good mood nomatter how shitty my day is going. The first verse is all positive in his life...hes content with the little things he has, his dog and his music. The second verse is all the negatives he has experienced or experiencing. The positives outweigh the negatives, and the song ends on a happy tune. Great. Fucking. Song.

Surprisingly..err.. very few people have actually commented on what they think this song is about... weird... /sarcasm

Ok apart from "Omg this song is so cool"... I think Nowell is talking about how unfulfilled he is in Southern California. The only thing he's really found in life there that makes him happy is reggae/ska.

The first half of the song just talks about daily life in the non-affluent areas of Southern Cali in a semi apathetic state...

While the second half of the song talks about everything wrong with where he lives. Everything that Nowell is unsatisfied with in Southern California. He sees the materialism of it and the lack of substance that exists there. Reducing it to the list of things that make his soul unsound. He has a love/hate relationship with the area he grew up/lives in.

I see the last line "All these things I do, They're waiting for you." as a tongue in cheek saying for people who pine to live in Southern California and glorify it for its wealth, weather, and celebrities. To me Nowell is sort of saying, "you really think it's so great? Come here and see for yourself." For this reason, probably my favourite song off their self titled album.

Deuce Duece is a slang for any .22 caliber weapon. This reference however is one of a .22 handgun. In the 80's "Gangsta rap" Deuce Deuce was used quite a bit. It was a small handgun Gang Bangers could easily hide. Bradley was a huge fan of Eazy E and N.W.A. In the Ice Cube movie Boyz N The Hood. one of the little kids says "I got a Deuce Deuce under my bed......It's loaded too. My brother gave it to me before he went in the Pen". (Penitentary) Long Beach and Compton border each other. R.I.P Bradley & R.I.P. Eazy motherfuckin E

you can tell brad wrote this song when he was getting deeper in to his heroin addiction, and sublime wasn't making alot of money yet. He wrote about bein a guy in a shitty band tryin to get by with drugs and all the shit he's got to deal with

This was a song about how Brad's life sometimes isn't all roses, even though he is a successful musician. I guess he was living in his Tweaker Pad, and getting yelled at by his dad. He was feeling depressed every day, saying he's happy when he's not...and, of course, finding roaches in his pot, and sticking needles in his arm. He was a junkie, but he was ashamed about it when he realized he couldn't quit. I lost a coworker and friend to drug addiction a few months ago, and although I didn't know how much he was using, it was heroin and pain pills that killed him...but I never knew for sure he was on drugs, just suspected it. He reminded me a lot of Brad, and we had a great time at work...I just wish he would have gotten help before it was too late. I wish Brad would have kicked his addiction for good, but old habits die hard...

This song's about all the good times that Sublime had as a band, this song being specifically about a trip to Graden Grove, which is close to Long Beach, where Sublime's from. It also mentions a lot of the bad things about the lifestyle they we're living. The second part of the song may be more about Brad's personal problems with Heroin and depression.
