Chiquitita, tell me what's wrong
You're enchained by your own sorrow
In your eyes there is no hope for tomorrow
How I hate to see you like this
There is no way you can deny it
I can see that you're oh so sad, so quiet

Chiquitita, tell me the truth
I'm a shoulder you can cry on
Your best friend, I'm the one you must rely on
You were always sure of yourself
Now I see you've broken a feather
(How it hurts to see you cry)
(And how it hurts to see you sad)
I hope we can patch it up together

Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they're leaving
You'll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving

Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
(Even though we cry, the sun is shining in the sky)
Let me hear you sing once more (so let me hear you sing some more)
Like you did before (the way you used to do before)
Sing a new song, Chiquitita

Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita

So the walls came tumbling down
And your love's a blown out candle
All is gone and it seems too hard to handle
Chiquitita, tell me the truth
There is no way you can deny it
I see that you're oh so sad, so quiet

Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they're leaving
(You and I we know, how the heartaches come and go)
You'll be dancing once again (you'll be dancing once again)
And the pain will end (and all the pain you take will end)
You will have no time for grieving

Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
(Even though we cry, the sun is shining in the sky)
Let me hear you sing once more (so let me hear you sing some more)
Like you did before (the way you used to do before)
Sing a new song, Chiquitita

Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, Chiquitita

I have always loved this song since I was little! When my Aunt finally divorced her husband and was really down my mom played this song for her and they sang, laughed and cried.

Im not really a fan of Abba but i always liked this song. For some reason I always thought this song was a kind of double meaning for Spain/Spanish people (my brain works in mysterious ways). I thought it was about Spain (being chiquitita) kind of finding/healing itself (sing once more) after the end of the repression by General Franco's Regime (the walls came tumbling down). Plus this song came out around 1978 (I think) and Franco died around 75 (I think)

Along those lines I think it is a very beautiful song

    but

In hindsight I think Abba were anything but political so Ive probably misinterpreted it

This song makes me think of an older sister comforting her little sister.

I didn't appreciate it until I heard Sinead O'Connor's version but beautiful lyrics about supporting a friend who has had her heart broken. Cloe to my fave Abba song.

My late grandma used to sing this to me when I was little, she sang it in Spanish. I never actually listened to the actual song until a few days ago 15 years later, reminds me how kind she always used to be.

For a long time I thought the song was about a friend comforting a girl that just broke up with a boyfriend. However, since chiquitita means very little girl and considering that the song was written during the issue/divorce of members of the group, I see it now as an older sister or a mother trying to comfort the pain of parents break.

I think this is about a woman singing to a girl who has been abused and telling her that she will be okay and to be strong. Shows once again the depth of the stuff that ABBA sung about, they sung about stuff like rape, child abuse, sex, etc and yet made it sound like fairy floss.. clever guys.

i think this song is about a girl named chiquitita and she used to dance and sing but then her boyfriend told her "go to hell bitch!" and that broke her heart and now she's all like "oh no, my heart is broken like christopher reeve's back (RIP)" and then some lady came and she noticed something wrong in her good pal chiquitita so she asked her "whats wrong chiquitita?" and i guess chiquitita told the lady that her boyfriend send her to hell and that's when the lady says "oh chiquitita you'll be ok you'll see" so then chiquitita started singing but she sang the song she've singing the past 10 years so the lady told her "hey chiquitita dont be like that sing a new song chiquitita" so chiquitita instead of singing a new song she ran to the piano and started playing the living jesus out of it and thats about it. oh and the music is so great i love ABBA some of my friends call me names cause i like ABBA but i dont care cause ABBA is great and if i have to loose all my friends for ABBA i will! haha

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
