Who's that woman on your arm
All dressed up to do you harm
And I'm hip to what she'll do
Give her just about a month or two
Bit off more than I can chew
And I knew, yeah I know what it was leading to
Some things, well, I can't refuse (I can't refuse)
One of them, one of them the bedroom blues
She delivers right on time
I can't resist a corny line (can't resist)
But take the shine right off your shoes, yeah right off your shoes
Carryin', carryin' the bedroom blues
In the bar you're getting drunk, whoa yeah yeah
Ain't in love, ain't in lust, whoa no no no
Hide the switch and shut the light, won't you shut it
Let it all come down tonight
Maybe your best mates might think I'm stranger
Some face I'll never see no more, no more
Let it all come down tonight, won't you let it, yeah
You're gonna feel sick out of sight
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down (let it loose)
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down
Let it loose, let it all come down

Lyrics aren't too bad in my opinion. To PT, and anyone else who doesnt really get what Mick is saying: He's with a woman who he knows will break his heart in due time and that she's more than he can handle. But he can't refuse her because either he's lonely or just using a relationship to get away from other problems. She delivers right on time, gives him what he needs, but in the end its just the bedroom blues that he'll have. Her friends most likely dont even know his name because she hasn't bothered introducing them since he won't be around for too long. All in all he's not in love with her, and she's no good for him but he says keep the tears back and let it all come down (ie have sex). It's sad to what extent the character seems to be using sex as an escape really.
Sooooo agree with your interpretation.
my take on it is that this is about being in love with someone who, at the end of the day, you know you can't maintain a relationship with. and being with someone else just to kill the time, feeling that desolate loneliness all the while. to me, "Let it loose/let it all come down" is about letting the hurt, the passion, the loneliness all flow.
Having just gone through a breakup, this song hits right at home.
And I think that's exactly what this song is about. Mick fell for someone because he needed someone. Those 'corny lines' she said went to his head, and he fell for all of it. But at the same time, he knew all the while that it was only a matter of time before she would break his heart. It didn't matter though, because he needed someone to be there, even if it was only for a 'month or two'.
The end of the song is the equivalent of sitting in your room with your face in your hands crying. Hence the 'shut the light' and 'let it all come down'. But the line 'let it loose' is saying you need to let it go and move on. Get it all out....scream...cry...do whatever you need to do. But then let it loose and move forward.
That's only my interpretation. But the great thing about a song that's sort of abstract like this is that you can interpret it in so many different ways.
Totally agree with you. I also went through a break up around the time I was listening to this song and I completely related with it. I got into a relationship that was never going to make it. Retrospectively he is looking at other couples cynically (as suggested in the first line) and in heinsight can see it was doomed. I also think "corny line" refers to using them as well as hearing. "In the bar getting drunk" is obviously about feeling sorry for yourself. The line "take the shine of your shoes" took me a while to interpret, but what it is to me is that at the start it was all fresh and "shiny" but after living and walking through life the shine went off and it wasn't good any more. "Let it loose" can also I think mean go wild on the rebound.

Agreed.
this is one of the stone's hardest hitting, yet the lyrics, when you understand them, are kind of a letdown. then again, the stones have always been about emotion over cerebral anyway. amazing song. maybe their best.
It'g got great crescendo, great feeling of friendship and love even which feels so touching coming from a band of rogues.
GREAT call johnsville:
I still have little idea what he is singing about.....but Mick really belts it out. Damn shame he isn't saying something worth while.
The draw back to a double album, not enough lyrical ideas to go around.
Still absolute gold.......the piano, backround singers, and horns are so key to Exile
thank you very much , songOfish.
i'll always hear one of my favorates in a new and better and more informed way........and to you i give? Ian brown is the best working musician in the world today. Check him out. Black rebel motorcycle club is a Stones like band. love is the answer...........that and great music.
Late night bedroom blues...more sad stuff from Mick. Some ho-hum lyrics at the start, but this song really centers around a fantastic title phrase "let it loose"...let what loose? could mean a variety of things. To me it evokes the desire to just let your emotions out, letting the tears flow after frustration has been pent up so long. Mick does a great vocal- by the song's end pleading, exhorting himself to let it loose, let it all come down tonight.
Tenementrock pretty much hit it nail on the head for me.

I've always pictured it as a man sitting at a bar, where the lights are dim, close to the end of the night. After all the pain, finally just letting out everything and breaking down. Tears in the beer, if you will.

I guess everybody interprets songs based on their own experiences. That just happens to be one of mine that fits rather well.
hey Kra2822 how old are you?! do you have Myspace or AIM?!?
This album is a damn good one for evoking images of bars, and moonlit nights in the deep south, with the smell of tobacco pervading the air.
