When sky blue gets dark enough
To see the colors of the city lights
A trail of ruby red and diamond white
Hits her like a sunrise

She comes and goes and comes and goes
Like no one can

Tonight she's out to lose herself
And find a high on Peachtree Street
From mixed drinks to techno beats it's always
Heavy into everything

She comes and goes and comes and goes
Like no one can
She comes and goes and no one knows
She's slipping through my hands

She's always buzzing just like
Neon, neon
Neon, neon
Who knows how long, how long, how long
She can go before she burns away

I can't be her angel now
You know it's not my place to hold her down
And it's hard for me to take a stand
When I would take her anyway I can

She comes and she goes
Like no one can
She comes and she goes
She's slipping through my hands
She's always buzzing just like

Neon, neon
Neon, neon
Who knows how long, how long, how long
She can go before she burns away, away

She comes and she goes
Like no one can
She comes and she goes
She's slipping through my hands
She's always buzzing just like

Neon, neon
Neon, neon
Who knows how long, how long, how long
She can go before she burns away, away

this song is simply about a college-aged atlanta (peachtree st reference) party girl who cant be tied down. these kind of girls will drive you nuts if you let them and there are plenty of them in atlanta(i speak from personal experience). she is boy crazy and goes out about 6 nights a week (classes be damned). he wants to tell her to slow down and not to get so fucked up all the time and to just hang out with him everynow and then. he wants to ask her to not get so hammered that she shacks up with a new guy everynight. but the problem is, he cant tell her this stuff because he knows that showing that kind of emotion would run off a girl like this. so he keeps quiet and continues to put up with her shit because he likes her too much and he "would take her any way he (i) can."

This girl does what she wants, she's wanton and destructive (mostly to herself). But she is also incredibly charismatic and bright to be around. He lets her be who she is because he knows that if he wants her in his life he must accept her flaws and all. And he definitely wants her in his life.

Neon is about a guy who is really in love with a girl. He just adores her and wants to be with her, but she’s had a generally destructive lifestyle for a long time, only having bad boyfriends, partying a lot and doing drugs, so even though she likes him she’s too afraid he won’t like her if he gets too close, she sort of feels he’s sweet and all but she’s so used to only being with bad guys that she keeps him at a distance, parties a lot, does drugs etc, because in some way she also feels he’s too good and sweet for her. He really just wants to save her, hold her in his arms, tell her he doesn’t care what she’s done, but that he loves her anyway and that he really doesn’t want to lose her. However, he feels she just keeps slipping away. I hope it works out for them:P

To me it's about a guy who cares deeply for a girl, and this girl is extremely unhappy on the inside. She try to cover it up by always being on the go..or always being the center of attention. He's worried about her and wants to help her, but feels like he can't or shouldn't because he might lose her...or..he just wants her to learn and grow from her experiences and mistakes.

Even though this song is about a guy singing to a girl, I still totally relate to it. Especially the part about him not being able to be her angel. I wish I could be this guy's angel but unfortunately he still needs to learn a few things by himself first. That's what I think this song is kinda about. That and how unhappy she is. It's just a great song.

Beautiful disaster i agree with you on that. when the lights come out in the city, she has to be the center of attention, life of the party but he knows that this kind of lifestyle can't last forever. i think this could also be a possible refereence to drugs. ( call me crazy, its happened before) but it just seems like shes a party animal and he cares about her and knows this lifestyle could end up killing her. but he doesnt know how to tell her , or if its even his place to do so.

this song is amazing. the lyrics just blow me away! its a song aout a guy who is so close yet so far from this girl. he doesn't know how long he'll have her for, possibly b/c of her wild lifestyle (at least i think so...)

i agree with the wild-lifestyle thing completely. he cant be with her because of it. and it drives him crazy but he cant hold her down. hes just gonna wait to be with her.. hopefully not "before she burns away"

This is the song for me, the song that gives me chills the whole way through. I have such a deep appreciation for the way some people can create these incredible pictures just with words and six strings. This is my summer goal, to be able to play it through and through. It's also so amazing to me that someone can play such an intricate guitar part and sing at the same time so harmoniously.
