Can't Stand Losing You Lyrics
And I guess it's all true what your girlfriends say
That you don't ever want to see me again
And your brother's going to kill me and he's six feet ten
I guess you call it cowardice
But I'm not prepared to go on like this
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
And my LP records and they're all scratched
I can't see the point in another day
When nobody listens to a word I say
You can call it lack of confidence
But to carry on living doesn't make no sense
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
And you don't care so I won't cry
You'll be sorry when I'm dead
And all this guilt will be on your head
I guess you'd call it suicide
But I'm too full to swallow my pride
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing

Apparently, Sting once joked this song was about his car keys.

Best suicide song ever

wow... this song reminds me a lot of what my ex and i were going through for the last few months we were together... constant fighting, one of us would get really ticked off at the other and threaten/attempt to break it off, and the other one would turn semi-suicidal (talk about doing it, but neither of us were ever willing to actually carry through on it) because even though staying together was just a world of pain, we were both somehow convinced that breaking up would hurt even more, and that given time, it could be fixed... eventually, i got sick of it, realized it wasn't going to get fixed, and said that i wanted to just break it off, and for whatever reason, she agreed. we're still close friends though...
anyways, as some people have said, the song isn't actually about killing yourself to get back at the girl for breaking up with him, it's about being incredibly depressed over the break-up and threatening suicide in the hope they'll get back together with you. the bouncy-happy tune and the somewhat bubbly bassline serve as a counterpoint to the depressing lyrics to indicate that the threats are empty and shouldn't be taken seriously. not to mention the occasional sillyness... "I see you've sent my letters back and my LP records and they're all scratched"

To add to what notsohardxcore was saying: I agree, although he may not have even really loved her, but definitely thought he did. The part "I'm too full to swallow my pride" is really important, because this song really is about him not wanting to lose her, but if he has to lose her he's not going down without the last word. Given how this song is both genuinely dark and humorous, I always change my mind when I listen to this song on whether or not the singer will actually commit suicide or whether it's just a threat to get his point across--the growing tone behind the lyrics at the "you'll be sorry when I'm dead" means that, again, maybe he won't really kill himself, but he definitely feels the sentiment behind it. The overarching theme doesn't really seem to be about his ex or even his suicide, it's his pride reacting to and driving these events. I mean, even though the title is "Can't Stand Losing You," when you listen to the song, that phrase appears precious little in the lyrics. What you hear over and over again, however, is "I can't stand losing, I can't stand losing..."

The meaning is pretty obvious...but it's a great song all the same.

A sad song about a breakup which leads to suicide. "You'll be sorry when I'm dead And all this guilt will be on your head I guess you'd call it suicide". He can't stand losing her, so death is his only escape.

quite simple, but not only does the break-up lead to suicide, he also wants to make her feel guilty about it. So actually it's an obsessive song, which means such a thing as: if you're not going to come back to me, I'll kill myself and you'll be very sorry about it, because they'll blame you.
Note: Sting wanted to write a lovesong, but it turned out to something else... creepy... the process of songwriting...

Man oh Man....who would kill themselves over some fool. I don't think Sting was serious about the suicide thing. I think that was more tongue and cheek.

For Gods sake!! This song is hilarious. Has no one heard of "Dark Humour." I thought I was depressed but I'm starting to wonder.
