Man In A Suitcase Lyrics
It's only mine because it holds my suitcase
It looks home to me alright
But it's a hundred miles from yesterday night
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
Must I be the man in a suitcase
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
For security I race for my connection
Bird in a flying cage you'll never get to know me well
The world's my oyster a hotel room's a prison cell
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
Must I be the man in a suitcase
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
It's only mine because it hold my suitcase
It looks like home to me alright
But it's a hundred miles from yesterday night
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
Must I be the man in a suitcase
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
Must I be the man in a suitcase
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face

one of my favorite police songs ever. Funky-awesome bass work, excellent vocal line, fun lyrics. So many people live that way too. It's a very modern song.

uhm yeh afi covered this song and i love the police and afi!

I think this song (an excellent one) is about someone who's always traveling, perhaps a business man. His home is wherever his suitcase is. (I'd invite you back to my place It's only mine because it holds my suitcase It looks home to me alright But it's a hundred miles from yesterday night)
He resents being confined to his job referred to as his suitcase. Wherever his suitcase takes him, he must go along, it's as if he's trapped inside. (Must I be the man in a suitcase)
He travels so much the people who knew him don't recognize him... he's just another passer-by/stranger. (Is it me, the man with the stranger's face)
(Another key for my collection) He may be reffering to all the hotel rooms he's checked into. He's handed a key to yet another hotel room.
(For security I race for my connection) Perhaps meaning he feels at this point his only source of security is the hotel room he checks into, that and his suitcase are the only things he can call his own.
(Bird in a flying cage you'll never get to know me well) He's trapped traveling in an airplane.
(The world's my oyster a hotel room's a prison cell) He's stating how small the world is, and yet, he's imprisoned even further to hotel rooms.
Sorry for bothering you, but I need some help regarding The Police lyric that you commented very closely. I live in Serbia and I translate The Police lyrics on Serbian. At first, is it possible that line goes: "I phone security, I wait for my connection" instead of "For security I race for my connection"? Anyway, what "connection" refers to?

Another dive into ska is 'Man In A Suitcase', quite different because the tempo is slower and the basic vocal melody emphasizes Sting's personal troubles with 'living in a suitcase' (you know what he means, doncha? All 'em rich fat rockers got the same problems...) more than the sarcastic intonation in 'Canary'. Classy catchy refrain. [George Starostin]

This song is awesome. It's sarcastic but a good song.
