So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
I never smoked me no cigarettes
I never drank much booze
But I'm only a man, don't you understand
And a man can sometimes lose
You gave me somethin' I never had
Pulled me down with you
Hit me with a big chunk of love
Hope you can pull me through
I overdosed on you
I overdosed on you
Crazy, but it's true
Ain't nothin' I can do
I overdosed on you
Oh, woman you give to me
More than I can take
But listen, honey, I don't mind
You're a habit I don't wanna break
Don't want me none of that harder stuff
Don't need it anymore
I'm in love, and I'm sinkin' fast
And I don't need no cure
I overdosed on you
I overdosed on you
Crazy, but it's true
Ain't nothin' I can do
I overdosed on you
Gee, I was happy as a man could be
Too far gone to save
Died of love, and plenty of
Just write on my grave
I overdosed on you
I overdosed on you
Crazy, but it's true
But nothin' I can do
I overdosed on you
On you
On you
On you
All over you
All over you
Ooh, yeah, oh
I overdosed
Overdosed
Overdosed on you
Overdosed, yeah
I never drank much booze
But I'm only a man, don't you understand
And a man can sometimes lose
You gave me somethin' I never had
Pulled me down with you
Hit me with a big chunk of love
Hope you can pull me through
I overdosed on you
I overdosed on you
Crazy, but it's true
Ain't nothin' I can do
I overdosed on you
Oh, woman you give to me

Overdosed
Overdosed on you
Overdosed, yeah

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
i agree with you my man, but please dont' use F@#$% as a term to put people down.
Rob Halford happens to be proud of his sexual choice and good for him......and he did front Judas Priest.
I digress. People simply put ACDC in the limited head bangers group, but if you actually listen to the albums (Bon Scott years) you will be amazed to hear a band on par with just about any act out there.
Have a good one .........Check out ,"Bullet"
as good a love song as has ever been written.
I'm not surprised to be the first; Hell half of the Rock and Roll world doesn't even know who Bon Scott is.......if you are still wondering he was the greatest lead singer in the history of music.
Alright that is an over statement; but no one brought more energy and sung with such an unhinged flare...and he really shined on this one.
This happens to be my favorate AC DC song and once you hear it a few times i'm certain you will rank it among your favorate AC DC tunes.
Just unreal energy.
Bon Scott is the most deserving yet unheralded person in Rock and Roll history.
^^^i couldn't agree more
and i hate those emo fags that say "all AC/DC sounds the same" because they are ignorant, and have never heard 1/16 of AC/DC's songs...hell they've probably heard highway to hell, TNT, and back in black
fuckin faggots
yes first line he says,I never smoked me no cigarettes
