Out on the road for forty days
Last night in Little Rock put me in a haze
Sweet, sweet Connie, doin' her act
She had the whole show and that's a natural fact
Up all night with Freddie King
I got to tell you, poker's his thing
Booze and ladies, keep me right
As long as we can make it to the show tonight
We're an American band
We're an American band
We're comin' to your town
We'll help you party it down
We're an American band
Four young chiquitas in Omaha
Waitin' for the band to return from the show
Feelin' good, feelin' right, it's Saturday night
The hotel detective, he was outta sight
Now these fine ladies, they had a plan
They was out to meet the boys in the band
They said, "Come on dudes, let's get it on"
And we proceeded to tear that hotel down
We're an American band
We're an American band
We're comin' to your town
We'll help you party it down
We're an American band

this song is about what the band was doing at that time. If you watch VH1 behind the scenes Don Brewer states that he wrote about life on the road. Sweet Sweet Connie is about Connie Hamzy, she was with both Don & Mel (not Mark). Her interview says Mark became a Christian & did not get involved with her. The "4 young chiquitas in Omaha" were 4 girls that were scheduled to take care of the band while in Omaha according to Mark Farner (again in the VH1 show-posted in 5 parts on Youtube.
Apparently the "plan" these fine ladies had devised was to say "let's get it on." Must have taken hours of plotting. No one said rnr was rocket science.
i love this song it reminds me of home
A lot of this song reminds me, even though there is about a 20 time span, of the Paula Jones/Bill Clinton scandal. Last night in Little Rock..., the hotel detective was out of sight (meaning nowhere to be found?)... perhaps this was simply a way of life in Arkansas
This song is about a couple of girls from kearney nebraska who went to a grand funk railroad concert and did the dirty dirty with the band. I know this because my mom lived in kearney and went to school with the girls.

This is just about life on the road as a band. Its actually based on real events the the band encountered along the way. Don Brewer is probably the coolest guy ever
We are Filipino Band....zzzzz, I feel ashamed our own music didn't evolved that much or should I say it didn't really evolved the way it should. well, I think somehow it did but suddenly all of what our legends had done for our music went to a downfall. Instead everything are almost copy cat of what the western has to offer.
and to make it short, most of us just end longing for good music from such great band like this.
Lyrics make sense, music ROCKS!
Ok.
This song is really great. just saying how it is on the road in a rocking band!! love grand funk
i love this song because it's so sleazy and dirty yet so clean. it's really a song where you have to read between the lines.
