I'm on a mission
I made my decision
To lead a path of self destruction
A slow progression Killing my complexion
And it's rotting out my teeth

I'm on a roll
No self control
I'm blowing off steam with methamphetamine
Don't know what I want
That's all that I've got
And I'm picking scabs off my face

Every hour my blood is turning sour
And my pulse is beating out of time
I found a treasure filled with sick pleasure
And it sits on a thick white line

I'm on a roll
No self control
I'm blowing off steam with methamphetamine
Don't know what I want
That's all that I've got
And I'm picking scabs off my face

I'm on a mission I've got no decision
Like a cripple running the rat race
Wish in one hand shit in the other
And see which one gets filled first

I'm on a roll
No self control
I'm blowing off steam with methamphetamine
Don't know what I want
That's all that I've got
And I'm picking scabs off my face (say)

Okay, nobody can tell me that this song is not about speed. . . it only says it in the lyrics. Aside from actually saying "methamphetamines" it talks about going on a mission, the speed bumps that kill the complexion, the rotting teeth, irregular pulse, the pleasure found on a "thick, white line," even having "shit" in one hand. . . not to mention the stink breath. . . but that's just what I think.

I LOVE this song... it's probably my favorite at the moment... I can't stop listening to it. I love these lyrics and I see nothing wrong with them. It's a part of life, probably people can relate to and to me it's doesn't seem to be like pro-drugs or anything, it talks about all the negative things and everything. Just commenting on that as some close minded people might have problems with the song words... Even my mother feels the same. It's a part of real life rather people want to know about it or not, you can't really ignore it and remain blind. I love realistic lyrics people can relate too much more than sugar coated lovey dovey ones to be honest... Sorry I'm expanding a bit from this song, but anyhoo... I love to talk and share opinions :D

It's about drugs. the line: "I'm blowing off steam,With methamphetamine" makes it kinda obvious though But it's a song that's neither for or against the use of drugs. it tells about crappy things that happens to the people using it "it's rotting out my teeth" "I'm picking scabs off my face" and "Lead a path of self-destruction" but it also says that it's hard for the guy "Well don't know what I want And it's all that I got"

I love this song!!! This was when Billie Joe thought he had to prove his "punkness" to everyone. The whole c.d. is good

Methany, actually the band does admit to using speed in their younger days, but I don't believe they still do it. I think they might have cleaned up a bit, but not totally ;).

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
