Sleeping To Dream Lyrics
I'm feeling like a lost little boy in a brand new town
I'm counting my sheep and each one that passes is another dream to ashes
and they all fall down.
As I lay me down tonight,
I close my eyes and what a beautiful sight
I'm so tired of having to live without you
So I'm sleeping to dream about you and I'm so tired
(Your eyes, your lips, your hair.)
Well you were everywhere
But I woke up in the ditches.
I hit the light and I thought you might be here
but you were nowhere. You were nowhere at home.
As I lay me back to sleep
Lord I pray that I can keep
I'm so tired of having to live without you
So I'm sleeping to dream about you and I'm so tired
I'm so tired of having to live without you
So I' sleeping to dream about you and I'm so tired

jason is so talented. to me this song is about missing somebody so much you can't wait to sleep...b/c u know you'll be dreaming about them.

This is such a beautiful song. It explains my new sleeping addiction perfectly.

To me, it means one of two things:
1) A long distance relationship 2) Someone you like too much and you wish you could sleep next to them, but you can't...and you dream about them..and the only way you can be with them is in your dreams.

I'm 100% the lyrics go "and I'm so damn tired of having to live without you" all the lyric sites that i've been to forget the damn, and the and. For shame. I've seen him live too and I agree that he is soo better live! Especially since he has an awesome personality to go along with his amazing voice. I think this is about any relationship where you have to live without the person. That could be a long distance relationship, or a person who doesn't love you back. In my mind it could also be about a person that you aren't living without litterally but you feel separated from them for some reason, even though they are there it seems like they're not? I dunno. I wish Jason Mraz would sing the whole "as I lay me down tonight" bit to me while going to bed! It'd make the awesomest lullaby everrrrrr.

A thought on my part, Could the song be about someone who died? the But I woke up in the ditches. I hit the light and I thought you might be here but you were nowhere. You were nowhere at home. adds to that, I think, because if someone you loved died, and you had a dream about that person, then woke up and remembered, then might you not want to belive when you wake up that that was part of the dream?
I dunno. Maybe I'm just stupid. But I think it's a valid idea. Though all of the pre-mentioned ones seemed to work pretty well as well.

Well to answer a previous comment, the back up singer is Toca Rivera. Jason mentions him tons on his live CD and everywhere else, he also plays a special type of drum, the name escapes me.
I think a lot of people are saying this song reminds them of a long distance relationship. I can believe it but, for me it reminds me of an ex gf that I would love to be with but, just cant. In your dreams you can dream of being together but everytime your awake you are forced to live life without them. "Im so tired of having to live without you." It means in our dreams is that place we can go and forget the facts that you are not with the one you love. Thats just me
I know it's been years since you posted this, but seriously....you've said it all for me right now.

This song reminds me of something that's going on in my life write now. I think he's thinking about someone who he can't be with. Possibly a long distance relationship? I love this song.

exactly...this song is so sweet....I like the lines: "I found myself in the riches (Your eyes, your lips, your hair.) Well you were everywhere But I woke up in the ditches. I hit the light and I thought you might be here but you were nowhere." *jason's got skills for rhyming!

lyrically, this song fits me to a 't' right now. jason has an amazing voice.....i'm lovin' it..!

i absolutely adore this song.... it is so immensely touching and beautiful. it describes exactly the situation i'm in.... and so wonderfully. jason mraz has a gift from god with his words and music.
