Gonna find a way to cure this loneliness
Yeah I'll find a way to cure the pain
If I said that you're my friend
And our love would never end
How long before I had your trust again
I opened up the doors when it was cold outside
Hopin' that you'd find your own way in
But how can I protect you
Or try not to neglect you
When you won't take the love I have to give
I bought me an illusion
An I put it on the wall
I let it fill my head with dreams
And I had to have them all
But oh the taste is never so sweet
As what you'd believe it is -
Well I guess it never is
It's these prejudiced illusions
That pump the blood
To the heart of the biz

You know I never thought
That it could take so long
You know I never knew how to be strong
Yeah, I let you shape me
But it feels as though you raped me
'Cause you climbed inside my world
And in my songs
So now I've closed the door
To keep the cold outside
Seems somehow I've found the will to live
But how can I forget you
Or try not to reject you
When we both know it takes time to forgive

Sweetness is a virtue
And you lost your virtue long ago
You know I'd like to hurt you
But my conscience always tells me no
You could sell your body on the street
To anyone whom you might meet
Who'd love to try and get inside
And bust your innocence open wide

'Cause my baby's got a locomotive
My baby's gone off the track
My baby's got a locomotive
Got ta peel the bitch off my back
I know it looks like I'm insane
Take a closer look I'm not to blame
No

Gonna have some fun with my frustrations
Gonna watch the big screen in my head
I'd rather take a detour
'cause this road ain't gettin' clearer
Your train of thought has cut me off again
Better tame that boy 'cause he's a wild one
Better tame that boy for he's a man
Sweetheart don't make me laugh
You's gettin' too big for your pants
And I's think maybe you should
Cut out while you can
You can use your illusion -
Let it take you where it may
We live and learn
And then sometimes it's best to walk away
Me I'm just here hangin' on
It's my only place to stay at least
For now anyway
I've worked too hard for my illusions
Just to throw them all away

I'm taking time quiet consolation
In passing by this love that's passed away
I know it's never easy
So why should you believe me
When I've always got so many things to say
Calling off the dogs a simple choice is made
'Cause playful hearts
Can sometimes be enraged
You know I tried to wake you
I mean how long could it take you
To open up your eyes and turn the page

Kindness is a treasure
And it's one towards me you've seldom shown
So I'd say it for a good measure
To all the ones like you I've known
Ya know I'd like to shave your head
And all my friends could paint it red
'Cause love to me's a two way street
An all I really want is peace

But my baby's got a locomotive
My baby's gone off the track
My baby's got a locomotive
Got ta peel the bitch off my back
I know it looks like I'm insane
Take a closer look I'm not to blame
No

Affection is a blessing
Can you find it in your sordid heart
I tried to keep this thing ta-gether
But the tremor tore my pad apart
Yeah I know it's hard to face
When all we've worked for's gone to waste
But you're such a stupid woman
And I'm such a stupid man
But love like time's got its own plans

'Cause my baby's got a locomotive
My baby's gone off the track
My baby's got a locomotive
Got ta peel the bitch off my back
I know it looks like I'm insane
Take a closer look I'm not to blame
Yeah
If love is blind I guess I'll buy myself a cane

Love's so strange

It's about a relationship that has gone sour. There's no more trust, sweetness, or compassion in it. The locomotive is all the negative feelings that want to plow them down.

This song is just amazing. the lyrics in it rival that of november rain and estranged, just pure class. its brilliant 2 minutes from the end, when the music dies down and the piano starts to play. kick ass song! :P

I think this song might be about Erin Everly, Axl's wife until the marriage was anulled in Janurary 1991, which fits well with the timeline as Use Your Illusion II was released later that year.

Also, you should pay particular attention to the line "'Cause you climbed into my world and into my songs". Remember, the classic 'Sweet Child O' Mine' was a love song written by Axl to Erin Everly, hence her "climbing into his songs".

This is a typical G n' R song where Axl uses real life events to reinforce his confusion on strong emotional matters, which he emphasises by finishing on the note "Love's so strange".

Such a great song. It is a bout a relationship that has gone bad. It is incredible how long the song is and somehow it never gets stale or dull. GNR kicks ass.

Something truly profound comes out of" I've worked too hard for my illusions Just to throw them all away" I am sure he is just talking about the relationship, but it probably speaks volumes of his point of view...he let it break up one of the more successful bands of the era. Personally, I catch myself making bad choices on irrelevant issues in my life and go back to this, I am just doing this because of my illusion of what I see.

Someone told this line "I bought me an illusion An I put it on the wall" was inspired by a scene in Wall Street. Gordon Gecko is telling Bud about a bad investment in a painting. I was told the painting in the movie was titled " Illusion", not sure if there is any true connection. The tempo breaks rather intensely with these 2 Illusion parts and the lyrics seem to transcend the relationship aspect that seem to be going on with the main verses. There are so many parts that are very special to me, almost like 4 different songs in 1.

This song is very special to me. I listened to this over & over again after my break-up. The lyrics really applied to the guy I was with and it had ended very badly. There was no more trust or affection or understanding just as the lyrics say of the relationship this song is about. It's like, "Yeah, it ended really badly and there's so many awful things you could do to that person but be the bigger person and not drop to that level." I love the line "'Cause playful hearts can sometimes be enraged", it shows that he tried and was very loving but this person pushed him too far, instilling anger in him to this person he thought he would never feel like that towards.

skinartia has it down pretty well. That one verse really got me too "Calling off the dogs a simple choice is made, cause playful hearts can sometimes be enraged. You know I tried to wake you, I mean how long could it take you, to open up your eyes and turn the page." At the time I heard this song I was trying to get this girl to open up her eyes and see that I liked her. But she just kept going on with these....GUYS that I wanted to kill because they treated her like crap. Another verse that got me was "Sweetness is a virtue, and you lost your virture long ago. You know i'd like to hurt you, but my conscience always tells me no. You can sell your body on the street to anyone whom you might meet, who'd love to try and get inside and bust your innocence open wide." That's just a really sad verse. Really sad and intense song. Long live GNR.

this song realy relates to stuff in my life now i love the whole song but the lines that realy made me love it whereand what i think they mean:

"When you won't take the love I have to give" hes tryed realy hard to make this work with the woman but she wont love him back and just spits everything right back in his face.

"I opened up the doors when it was cold outside Hopin' that you'd find your own way in" he sacrafised loads for her makeing things easyer for her hoping that she would come to him and love him back.

"I bought me an illusion An I put it on the wall I let it fill my head with dreams And I had to have them all" because he cant have what he wants in reality he dreams and pretends everything is find in an illusion and imagins evrything is gonna work and be brill but he knows its not.

"Yeah, I let you shape me But it feels as though you raped me 'Cause you climbed inside my world" he changed for this girl and sacrafised loads for her but he never wnated it to happen in the first place but she made him love and forsed her way into his world and he couldnt say no.

"So now I've closed the door to keep the cold outside" now he has given up on her and blocked her out so she cant hurt him any more.

"Seems somehow I've found the will to live But how can I forget you or try not to reject you When we both know it takes time to forgive" know shes gone he has by seamingly a miricle he has found a way to live without her and hates her but he just cant forget her and wants to reject her cos he hasnt forgiven her.

"You know I'd like to hurt you but my conscience always tells me no" he wants to rle make her pay for what she has done to him but he cant because even tho he doesnt admit it her still lovers her.

"You could sell your body on the street to anyone whom you might meet Who'd love to try and get inside and bust your innocence open wide" this girl is rle good looking and anyone would love to have sex with her n do stuff with her.

"Your train of thought has cut me off again" this woman is ignoring him aparents again.

"I've worked too hard for my illusions Just to throw them all away" he has spent so much time n effort convinsing him self its gonna work and beleiving that it is he cnat just that easyly get rid of wot he beleives.

"When all we've worked for's gone to waste But you're such a stupid woman and I'm such a stupid man But love like time's got its own plans" everything hes worked on to make it work has gone to waste n he just feals as tho he has wasted part of his life because of her foolishness and probably not so much his but he says that love must know wot its doin so it ill b ok in the end.

sorry that was quite long but thats wot i think bits of the song means im nto sure about the chorus but the line "Got ta peel the bitch off my back I know it looks like I'm insane" shows thats he doesnt wnat her any mroe n is tryin to get rid of her cos she hurt him and it must look like hes crazy cos shes so good lookin. anyone know wot the locomotive bit migth mean?
