When you're talkin' to yourself
And nobody's home
You can fool yourself
You came in this world alone
(Alone)

So nobody ever told you baby
How it was gonna be
So what'll happen to you baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see
One, two

Old at heart but I'm only twenty eight
And I'm much too young
To let love break my heart
Young at heart but it's getting much too late
To find ourselves so far apart

I don't know how you're s'posed to find me lately
An what more could you ask from me
How could you say that I never needed you
When you took everything
Said you took everything from me

Young at heart an it gets so hard to wait
When no one I know can seem to help me now
Old at heart but I musn't hesitate
If I'm to find my own way out

Still talkin' to myself
And nobody's home
(Alone)

So nobody ever told us baby
How it was gonna be
So what'll happen to us baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see

When I find out all the reasons
Maybe I'll find another way
Find another day
With all the changing seasons of my life
Maybe I'll get it right next time
An now that you've been broken down
Got your head out of the clouds
You're back down on the ground

And you don't talk so loud
An you don't walk so proud
Any more, and what for

Well I jumped into the river
Too many times to make it home
I'm out here on my own, an drifting all alone
If it doesn't show give it time
To read between the lines

'Cause I see the storm getting closer
And the waves they get so high
Seems everything we've ever known's here
Why must it drift away and die

I'll never find anyone to replace you
Guess I'll have to make it through, this time - oh this time
Without you
I knew the storm was getting closer
And all my friends said I was high
But everything we've ever known's here
I never wanted it to die

    My first attempt here....

So...in my opinion this is THE deepest and most personal song Axl has written (despite somewhere being stated that This I Love is)....I think that its mainly about loneliness and despair caused by the irreparable loss of the person you were strongly attached to.....right from the beginning of the video you can see an empty house...Axl in child room....He in the place that holds most of his good memories...Its like he's..trying to get back to his happy state, trying to return the times when all was good...but at the same time understands deep inside that he's lost everything that was important for him and it cant be returned....hes totally lonely and in despair..."I'll never find anyone to replace you"....see what I mean? She/he is gone FOREVER and every ..EVERY..good and important thing in your life is gone as well cuz she/he was the source of those in your life....and youre feeling desperate...doomed cuz you know she/he cant be replaced ever...and it feels like youre stripped of your life...totally empty, apathetic, you cry all the time....and this nightmare goes on and on....and you try to do whatever it takes to forget this, to change this but all is in vain....you cant fucking help it youre still alone and you still think about him/her no matter what...SO basically this song is about the most difficult time after you lose your beloved one

music today is all hip hop and stupid little girls singing with no talent whatsoever....PURE CRAP!... and most of the rock today isn't that great either, nothing but a bunch of screaming idiots! GNR was the greatest. I hope Axl comes back to kick everyones ass!

Wait, Cougar 10 said VH1 named this one of the worst Rock songs ever....What? Estranged is a great song (unlike my corny screen name), HOW could it make that list?

    Song Meaning

I've heard a lot a people saying 'its about his divorce its about his divorce!' but im pretty sure even though he wrote it around that time, its more about the feelings than that event specifically. the divorce just inspired him to write about those kind of feelings.

in the making the f'n videos dvd axl says it could be applied to lots of relationships of the band, like with stephanie or erin or when stevie left. estranged pretty much means willingly leaving something, and the song i ersonally think its about things you know are going to happen/the inevitable, and leaving things because of the inevitable and because you know it be for the better even if you dont want to.

I knew the storm was getting closer (knowing somethings going to happen) And all my friends said I was high But everything we've ever known's here I never wanted it to die (he doesnt want to leave it, but has too)

i love this song. i used to think the videos were just plain silly but the more i think about the meaning the more i think about axl and how he does things and insists on expressing his feelings i dont. still its a great song. underrated though. everytime i listen to it its like im hearing it for the first time again
