The Noah Plan
Peter Schilling Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A million years have come and gone
The earth is shifting towards the sun
Synthetic atmosphere is lost
And forces the computers off
Communications are confused
The tides reverse
And start a chain reaction
The seismograph's consulted incredible results
It says we're losing all control, losing all control
The scientists around the world decipher everything they do
But they don't really know, they don't really know
Instead of systematic, the news becomes erratic
No one can agree, no one can agree
The world is getting frantic as people start a panic
What does all this mean?

The sun is moving closer and the atmosphere gets hotter
As the system overloads, system overloads
Fighting these adverse conditions loading for the expedition
Everyone must go, everyone must go
The fools that think the worst is over
They won't live to be much older
Why do they remain, why do they remain
Everything is ready
Everyone that's coming has been safely brought on board

The time has come
To leave again
Activate
The Noah plan
Returning to
The universe
Give out the word
Abandon earth

Magnetic fields surrounding us and pounding and increasing
As the ship is taking off, ship is taking off
The electronic shields protect us from the heat
We're slowly breaking lose, slowly breaking lose
The ship is lifting higher, the earth is growing smaller
As we leave the atmosphere, leave the atmosphere
We watch the earth get closer, getting closer, getting closer
As it drifts into the sun

The time has come
To leave again
Activate
The Noah plan
Returning to
The universe
Give out the word
Abandon earth

The time has come
To leave again
Activate
The Noah plan
Returning to
The universe
Give out the word
Abandon earth

The time has come
To leave again
Activate
The Noah plan
Returning to
The universe

Give out the word
Abandon earth

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Peter Schilling’s “The Noah Plan” tell the story of a group of people leaving Earth due to adverse conditions and facing uncertainty as they embark on a new journey. The song begins by referring to a “million years” passing and the Earth’s movement toward the sun. Synthetic atmosphere is lost, causing computers to shut down, and communication is confused. Suddenly, the tides reverse, and a chain reaction begins. As the situation becomes more erratic, people start to panic, but even scientists do not know what is going on.

Despite the chaos, the group proceeds with their plan to leave Earth, as they face increasing magnetic fields and heat. The ship they are on slowly breaks free from the Earth’s atmosphere and begins to lift higher. They watch the Earth get smaller as they drift away, and their journey into the universe begins. The lyrics suggest that Earth may no longer be a viable home, and the only solution is to abandon it in favor of finding a new place to live.

This song can be interpreted in a number of ways. One possible interpretation is that it is a warning about the dangers of climate change and the potential consequences if we do not address these issues. The Noah Plan may be seen as a metaphor for a plan to save humanity from the effects of climate change. It is also possible to view the song as a reflection of the uncertainty and fear that many people feel about the future, particularly in light of recent global events.

Agreed.

That’s why this song is so good. Not only is it catchy, but it’s scarily accurate. Think.

We are on a planet heading towards destruction, with many thinking that the worst has already happened and that it is healing without our help.

In the meantime humanity is reaching out to the stars, either looking for aliens, or finding new inhabitable planets.

Someday very soon, the Noah Plan could be coming, as our own planet becomes uninhabitable due to our actions.

Been a huge fan of this since it’s release in 1982
Why after 40 years it remains so obscure and underrated is beyond me. I’ve only met a handful of people that have ever even heard of it
Such a shame - Great Song!!!
