Riddle me this / Did you ever grow? / Break the spider's legs / Just to feed the crow
|
The lyrics begin with the rhetorical question; “did you ever grow”.
It seems the subject of the song broke off spider legs to feed a crow, possibly in their childhood.
Children are often cruel to animals, but King Gizzard thinks that the subject never learnt better, never grew beyond casual cruelty.

-your love
|
This song and Ya Love are about Stu’s daughter. (As is Yours, giving the album a cyclical nature, like Nonagon Infinity, as well as making a hidden trilogy w/ Yours as the last song)
Yours is about the assurance of unconditional love and that Stu is hers, forever.
Ya Love is about the wonder of bringing life into the world, specifically his daughter, specifically the light and love a child can bring.
In this song he hopes
he is deserving of her love and hopes he can guide her well. Butterfly 3000 (the album and the song) Is about hope more than anything, at least in my opinion.

I climb up the stalk and plant the bean / The universe is a machine
|
Stu is giving an insight about the nature of the universe and our existence, perhaps a revelation that he experienced through the use of psychedelics, which he is known to use. Because we are a part of the universe and our separation from it is an illusion, we are the universe and therefore must have created the universe ourselves. The universe is an infinite “machine” of existence and creation. We, as conscious beings, could be described as “the universe experiencing itself”. We are able to perceive ourselves, and thus perception itself. Almost as if we have awoken from the dream that is reality.
